Where would you stay for a long weekend in January. My 18 yo daughter and I will be arriving Friday am and leaving Tuesday afternoon. She is running the half marathon on Sat and I am running the full on Sun so we may not even be in the parks more than one full day this trip.Since it's a short trip,we want to make the most of it and stay at a mod or deluxe.Since it's Jan,pools are not important to us.Just wondering which resort is most enjoyable in the winter? Tia :earsboy:

All the resorts have much to recommend them. Of the moderates, my favorite is POFQ because it is compact and beautifully themed. My favorite deluxe would be the Beach Club - close to Epcot, the Boardwalk and DTD and lots of transportation options. Lots of eating choices, too, including proximity to the Swan and Dolphin. The monorail resorts are great for the obvious - location! Or, try the DVC resorts -a studio would work well for you and would offer more room than a moderate. But you can't really go wrong with any of them.

For travel ease for the races a monorail hotel would be your best option. Otherwise you will have to get going even earlier to catch a bus. We were at ASMo last year and the buses ran 3-4 am to the race start. Every bus left the resorts packed and many of them were rentals brought in for the day. YUP, drivers got lost both ways  We are doing DTD this trip, and just driving to race (I know the traffic will be bad, we saw it). But if I could do deluxe this trip it would be on the monorail resort. If I went moderate I think I would go POR/FQ, it would be the closest.

If you can --- I would do a monorail resort. You will probably want to cheer her on for the half marathon on Saturday and she will probably want to cheer you on for the full on Sunday. Easiest to do this from a monorail resort. My family got stuck in traffic last year on the morning of the races -- it was just awful. If I had family/friends going this year we would be at a monorail resort. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. This is our first WDW marathon,do the runners pass by the monorail resorts so I :sunny: could stand outside somewhere to cheer her on?

yes, the runners pass Contemporary, GF and Poly resorts--close enough that it is an easy walk to see them as they run by. The other reason it would be a huge benefit to stay at a monorail resort is for ease of transportation on the mornings of the races. Not only for the runners but also for family/friends who might want to cheer/watch along the route in a couple of places. We are staying at BWI only bcs I love the EPCOT area.

We stay at the AKL during our winter trips to WDW. This resort is so relaxing and very beautiful and just sitting on our balconey looking out on the savanna is the best. We will be at the AKL from the 21st through the 27th of Jan 2006. Good luck to you and your daughter in the races.
