Where to stay in Anaheim?

After I saw the rates for staying in one of the Disney hotels, I decided that we must stay offsite. Any recommendations? I seem to see the HoJo mentioned often but I would ideally like someplace that includes breakfast (continental is fine). I would love to be able to walk to the park. We don't need anything fancy, but do like to feel like we are in a nice, clean room. I read somewhere that the HoJo had the feel of an "old" motel - just good enough for laying your head down - true?

I am leaving for Disneyland on Saturday (yay!) and will be staying at the Anaheim Fairfield Inn Marriott. This will be my second time staying there. I think it's a really good off-property option. It's clean and very close for walking. Breakfast is not included, but there is a McDonalds right in front of it. We also recently stayed at the Camelot which is right next door. It's about the same as the Fairfield, but the room we got was a bit larger. It does come with breakfast. However, the breakfast was horrible, so we ended up going to McDonalds anyway.

I'll be staying at the Park Vue Inn on Sunday. I have read great things about it and it is supposed to be one of the closest to the parks.

I can let you know if it really is so great when we get back from out trip

I haven't stayed at the HOJO but I considered it so checked it out thoroughly. I think what you might have read about the retro feel is more based on decor than actually being old and run down. I'm pretty sure they recently upgraded the rooms and it is a favorite around here, actually. It's definitely walking distance.

They're a little out of our price range so we're considering a Good Neighbor Economy, but I've stayed at the Candy Cane Inn and it's very nice. Also the Anabella is nice but we had to take the ART to the park.

I've been doing a lot of research here on hotels.

Best Western PPI has solid reviews here. Can't remember details about their breakfast. This and Park Vue Inn are the absolute closest to DL.

We are staying at Park Vue Inn and I walked over to see the property the last time I was at DL (and stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites, which I cannot recommend). It's a standard two story motor motel, BUT it gets great reviews for its breakfast offerings and lite dinner (5-7 pm).

HoJo is a further walk, doesn't have breakfast, and some rooms can have awful highway noise. I think isn't anything super special unless you A) have little kids who would enjoy the pirate water play area or B) need the kids suite.

Candy Cane Inn has a great continental breakfast. The rooms are nice, some complain they are small, but they work just fine for us. The shuttle is a nice benefit when your feet hurt, but unnecessary.

We like the Candy Cane Inn. It's within walking distance but they also have a free shuttle. They have free parking and a good free breakfast. It's continental but i think it's better than most free hotel breakfasts of that type. I also think it's one of the nicer looking hotels along harbor. It's really just a 2 story motel but they've made it look really cute with their landscaping. I also like that it's the on the same side of the street as DLR so you don't have to cross Harbor. My sister did a review of it. I'll see if I can find that thread for you.

We just booked Best Western Park Place Inn. I read the reviews on Trip Advisor and they were mainly positive. It does have a breakfast. Looks like mostly some pastries and cereal and coffee and juice. Not sure if we'll do it every morning but it will be good on occasion. It appeared to be one of the closest from the map.

Connie, you're getting alot of good advice in all the posts above.

The short answer to your original question (where to stay in anaheim?):

Either Stay on site......or stay at a property that is (truly) walking distance (virtually all on Harbor Blvd.)

All of the above have pro & cons depending on what's important to you:

- Kids? How old & will they want to swim?
- Mid day break? (& if not why not ).
- What is it about a free bfast that is important. (& why wouldn't a McDs do?)
- Any folks who don't want to walk back & forth 4 legs each day? (if yes, the CCI dedicated shuttle is a nice perk).
- How many in the group?

All of the above recommended hotels are good (some better than others)....and all allow one to WALK TO THE PARKS which is the most important feature. Answer the 4-5 questions above & you'll get even more feedback.

-2 kids - 10 and 14 - they might want to swim but we are going at the end of March and not sure if the weather will cooperate. That said, we do not need a cool pool like the HOJO
- Yes, we almost always take a mid-day break
- I was asking about the breakfast for convenience. DH doesn't even eat breakfast but I need to. McD's would be fine. I just didn't want to have to go to a restaurant or skip breakfast
- Shuttle would be nice - we will also have a car - we like to control our own destiny so if the shuttle doesn't run often, that would be a problem for us
- 4 in the group - 2 adults/2 kids

I will throw one more question in here - does it work out ok to stay in Anaheim for the whole week if we plan to spend some time in LA/Hollywood/Universal area? I am planning 3-4 days at Disney but also want to visit Hollywood and Universal. I love to stay put in a hotel and not have to check out and move but will the drive back and forth be unbearable?
