Hello everyone! Just found and joined this forum today. What wonderful information everyone has to offer.

I am planning a trip in September for my niece. She will be turning 10 and this is her gift from me. I want to make this the best trip ever and was wondering about where to stay. It is just the two of us and so I want to find the best fit. She loves animals so I thought about AKL, but she will use the pool a lot too. Not sure how much time we will spend at the resort.

Ideas, thoughts, or suggestions? :earsgirl:

Well I took my sister when she was 10 and we had a great time at the Beach Club. She loved the pool and we also loved being able to walk to Epcot and the Boardwalk at night. This is a fun kid hotel- with Beaches an Cream ice cream shop. This is usually our hotel of choice- this time we are going GF because we have two under 2- thought we needed a monorail hotel this time.

Yes - you will find these boards to be invaluable!

AKL would be a good choice for an animal lover. We stayed there when our DD was 9 and she loved it! Had a Savannah View and the best time we found for watching the animals was early in the morning. They have a nice pool there too.

If you don't think you'll spend too much time at the resort, the Values can be perfect - especially when it's just two of you. POP is a wonderful resort we've stayed at several times. The '50s and '70s buildings are close to everything without spending the extra $$ for a *preferred* location ('60s).

Be sure to check out the resort threads (there's a sticky at the top where you'll find a thread for each resort).

Again, welcome, and isn't your niece lucky to have such a generous Aunt!

Hi and Welcome to the DIS!
I was also going to suggest an Epcot resort.....Beach Club, Yacht Club or Boardwalk. It's so great being so close to both Epcot and the Studios. You can easily walk to Epcot in 5-10 minutes from this area. The Studios are 15-20 minutes walking. You can also take the Friendship boats to get to either park. At 10 years old she would probably enjoy Test Track and Mission: Space at Epcot. My DS (now 14) always loved Tower of Terror at the Studios....actually after being afraid to try it for our first few trips the TOT is now my absolutely favorite ride anywhere!!!!
I suggest you go over to allearsnet.com for loads of Disney info. Also go over to mousesaver.com for discount information.

If the moderate resorts fit more within your budget I would choose Port Orleans Riverside. Fun theme pool, quiet pools, food court and convenient & tranquil boat transportation to Downtown Disney for girl shopping or a meal at the Rainforest Cafe. Have fun planning!

Whats your budget and is this her first trip? If its not her first trip where has she stayed before. I have 3 daughters. When my older 2 were younger all I could afford were the Values. The first time I could afford a moderate they didn't like it. Now that they are older and out of the house, its just DD11 and I. We either go for the Deluxes or the Values. We've stayed at WL. CR, Poly (she loved that one, seeing Cindy's castle from the beach and the volcano pool), Pop, and every All-Star (oops also POFQ, the one they didn't like). She loves them all. It basically comes down to your budget. If you go with a Value you can do more Character meals and other sit down dinners and shows. DD11 loved Hoop-dee-doo Revue. You might want to check out the following site. It has info and pics of all the resorts also menus from all the restaurants.

LOL I was just there this time last week and I already want to plan another trip. Sigh I got it bad.

Since she is only 10 and I think the MK will be your big park - then the Polyn.

if that is too expensive then POR - for a moderate and Pop for a value.

although she might enjoy ASMo, more you will enjoy Pop more.

What great information! This is my DN (Disney neice?) second trip. She went 4 years ago with her mom and dad. She stayed at one of the Pop resorts. My budget is pretty open but of course the less I spend on the room the more the budget is open for fun and games!

So for a 4 night stay would you even consider splitting up the days? Or is that too short to think about?

Welcome to the DIS! Check out my CSR website below. Your niece will love the main pool area at CSR. It has a great 123 ft slide.
