We cruise on the Dream in April, first cruise ever first time to port canveral area. I need advice and good recommendations on where to stay the night before or weekend before. I have contemplated staying at WDW the night or two before, no parks though. Would it be worth it or should I try to stay somewhere with beach access? Is there a good clean place with beach access close to port?

We like staying at WDW or the airport Hyatt. The latter can be booked via DCL & combined with transfers to the port, just like a stay at WDW.

I would recommend staying at WDW and enjoying a resort and Disney Springs before catching a DCL bus to the port. We stayed at the Port Orleans.

We’re sailing the Fantasy out of Port Canaveral this weekend and staying at the Raddison Resort at the Port. If you’re not spending time at WDW I highly recommend staying near the port instead. We stayed there last year as well and enjoyed it. It’s an older hotel and the rooms are not particularly fancy, but the pool is awesome. My daughter had a blast last year playing in the waterfalls. It was also only a $15 Lyft ride to the port and they have a deal for parking during your cruise that is way cheaper than parking at the Port if you need it.

Not a fan of a resort only stay at Disney World personally. Its way to expensive to stay at Disney and you can interact with the resorts without staying there if you really wanted to.

If we are talking about MCO => Port Canaveral, there are SO MANY quality/modest hotels north of 528 and the airport . . . all with free (if inconsistent) shuttles from/to the airport.
If one is getting a car service to the port the next day, it doesn't matter where one stays.

The big variable from home to cruise ship always seems to be airline travel with all of it's joys and TSA regulations. We almost missed an Alaska cruise thanks to Air Canada and their lack of repair facilities in EWR. For the European cruises, we try to arrive 24 hrs in advance (i.e., the previous morning), just in case.

In 12~14 trips between MCO and the port by automobile, there has never been much variability (thank goodness). Plus, MCO is an hour closer to the port than the WDW resort.

Nobody ever recommends Disney's Vero Beach property for a weekend before a cruise, but it might be worth a look, particularly if you have a vehicle.

We have stayed twice the Country Inn and Suites in Port Canaveral and La Quinta. We fly in the day before and use that day to do anything we want to do, even stop in at Downtown Disney for lunch. Our next cruise we decided to try the Radisson. We won't have a rental this time and everything we need to do it within walking distance.

We rented a great Cocoa Beach condo through vrbo. It was convenient to the port and perfect for a day at NASA pre-cruise. 2 bedroom, beach view balcony, with a great pool and hot tub for less than the cost of a Disney Value resort!

We fly in. Our favorite is to stay on Disney property (All Star Sports is our favorite.....I have boys). We take the ME bus to the resort; then we take the DCL bus to the port (costs extra). That way we never have to worry about luggage or driving.

We love Disney’s Vero Beach resort, and it’s usually very easy for us to book DVC at seven months or less. We’ll spend four nights there prior to our Western Caribbean cruise on the Fantasy next month. We have previously stayed ther in January or June, but I think November will be a good time to stay there.

We fly from home tomorrow and will use ME to go to OKW. Spend the night and then go to the port.
We usually do that. I love staying on Disney property

Do you take the A1A or the I95 to get to the port?

I guess it just depends on what you’re looking for and what your budget allows. Staying at WDW, particularly on-property, will likely cost more than staying in Cocoa Beach.

I really like Disney Springs, but I don’t feel like it’s a destination unto itself. That is to say, if I wasn’t going to the parks, I don’t think I’d want to pay WDW resort/room prices just to swim and visit DS.

FWIW, we are Hilton people and stay at the Doubletree in Cocoa Beach. We find it to be the best of the three beachfront Hilton properties.

We have done coco beach hotels and found them a bit noisy at times. We prefer the easy stress free Hyatt MCO and the disney magic express bus to the port. But then again we typically fly in the day before.

We have done this several ways. If we fly in early enough the day before or a few days before, we have stayed at a WDW resort. No park tickets. (we have stayed at Port Orleans, a few times at the Polynesian, when I snagged a great rate) Just soak up the atmosphere. Maybe a trip to Disney Springs for dinner. We also like to make our way and stay in the Cocoa Beach/Port Canaveral area. Visit the beaches, relax by the pool etc. ( We have stayed at the Residence Inn, which we like-they have kitchens in the room, Hilton and Hampton Inn with a walkway to the beach-which we really liked) If we fly in the evening before, we stay at MCO Hyatt, as it is clean, quiet and easy. Disney transport the nest morning. They all work. Just depends on want you want to see/do. How much time you have. I really hate to rush of feel pressured once I start my vacation. Enjoy your cruise!

The Courtyard in Cocoa Beach is our go to (we usually use Bonvoy points). It isn't beach front but it is an easy walk around some condos to the beach. It has a great pool/ outdoor bar area and is a short drive to the port.

We stay at the Country Inn and Suites. They have rooms that have separate little 'nooks" with a bunk bed and a single for kids and the adults get the queen. They have a cruise and park package if you want. They have a pool and little buffet. And it is very close to the port.

I'm looking at the 2 last posts and made me think a bit.
Typically we stayed at the Country Inn and Suites because I had a great discount from work, we had a rental car and it was thanks to the DIS and cruise meet because most of the cruise meet was staying there. On the noise level we hadn't noticed anything but the staff wanted to move us because it was a noisy area. On check out they once again apologized because it was aclose to the lobby, breakfast and pool area and it was noisy and again we said we were fine we never heard anything and our kids were still fairly young and we had an early flight out of Detroit which for us was a 2 1/2 hour drive. Basically by 10 pm we were sleeping.
Next cruise we stayed there again because we liked our first visit but because of the flight deals we had we decided to leave home a few days earlier and we ended up staying at the Embassy Suites just outside the airport. The courtesy phones in the airport listed pretty much every hotel but the Embassy and the shuttle does not run regularly especially if you get there at 1am...obviously LOL. We had the kids, teens now and with our luggage no cab could fit us because only hybrid cars can be close. One driver let me use his cell to call the hotel. I called the hotel in the afternoon before leaving and said I'd get there around 1am. We got there and they couldn't find our reservation and our room was gone but we could get a smoking room. No thanks I stopped smoking 10 years ago and I don't want that room. The girl offered us the suite instead king size bed and separate livingroom with pull out sofa. Great room but the people next door may as well have been in our room and they were just talking they were not even being loud. That would probably be a big turn off from going there again but they had a great breakfast buffet and the bed was really comfortable.
On the Hyatt, we snagged a hotwire room after our first cruise. Our friends had a room overlooking the inside of the terminal. Great but the novelty wears off after an hour and they closed the door and curtains. We had a room on the outer wing and was the nicest room and hotel we ever stayed at. The levels recess so every hallway gives you inside views to look at. There are park like seating tranquil areas, a lot of plants and trees and the room and balcony were huge. We spent a lot of time outside looking at the planes. And, the room was very quiet.
OK this is my personal opinion. Some posters say the room you get will depend on your budget. I would say do some research especially on nights when there is nothing on tv. Become your own travel agent and look at hotels and rates. I google mapped the area outside Orlando airport and looked at every hotel, who has shuttles, breakfast, wifi, walking distance to stores, gas stations, restaurants, liquor, ect and prices. We've paid close to 300 to stay in a room before and 100. We also found a great deal a few years ago at All Star Movies that put the room at 68 dollars per night. Our next cruse we already decided on the Radisson at the port because we have never stayed there. It looks cool to us. There is no free breakfast but we can go to the golden arches across the street and not still be stuffed by the time we get on the ship and can't hardly eat anything.

We like the Holiday Inn Express & Suites - Cocoa Beach. It's about 15 min from the port, within walking distance of the beach and has a grocery store (Publix) next door to pick up our beer/wine/snacks for the cruise. We do use IHG points, so that's included as one of our reasons.
