Where to stay at SSR

We are staying in a 1 bedroom at SSR Mar 12-17th. The DVC owner I rented points from has been very helpful but as her home resort is OKW and she hasn't stayed at SSR she was unable to help me with suggestions for which area to request a room in. We are 2 adults and 2 girls 17. DH and I will probably do the parks 1-2 days only and are looking forward to relaxing and hopefully picking up a little sun and warmth. The girls are at an age where they can "do their own thing" within reason of course and both are very familar with WDW. I was thinking of requesting Congress Park as we are not concerned with the walk(actually looking forward to it) and would prefer the quiet pools area vs theme pool. Any suggestions as to room/building? I know it isn't guaranteed but no harm in asking.
Thanks

If you want Congress Park I would not ask for a specific room or building, as there truly is no reason to.

There are only 4 buildings, there is no advantage to one over the other and you will be placed in a one bedroom and that will determine somewhat the location of your room.

If you request a specific building and there are no one bedrooms available it is possible they will simply over look any other requests.

The reason for requesting Congress Park was that we would be able to see the fireworks from Pleasure Island. I am a huge fan of fireworks but could easily walk to see them as well. Is this a desirable area of the resort or does anyone have any other suggestions?

When we were there in early Feb., they weren't doing the fireworks anymore. You might want to check into that....

On this map: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/Saratoga.htm we were in the building marked "6501-6836" which I was NOT happy about when the CM circled the building on our check-in map. However, we ended up with a first floor room overlooking the lake, and were closer to the bus stop than most anyone else! Actually, our room was right about where the "01" is in the "6501". We had a one bedroom unit. Close walk to DTD and to the main building, where we enjoyed breakfast each day. (This was totally unplanned as we always bring our breakfast items to fix in the room, but the breakfast was so good, we couldn't resist!)

I was not looking forward to our stay at SSR - I was afraid with the size of the resort that we would just feel so crowded, but I have to say it is now a favorite! (Glad about that since half our points are there!)

ETA: It looks like there is a forest between the building we stayed in and the bus stop, but there were just a few shrubs. So easy to get back and forth. We will request this area in the future.

we just got back on Sunday. we stayed in congress park too. My DS-10 and DD-7 both really liked the quiet pool too. View of DTD was awesome, but I don't recall any fireworks at all either.

Thanks for all the info. So glad I happened on this site a couple of months back. Not only did I connect with a helpful owner to rent some points from but I've gained a wealth of knowledge and suggestions(and I thought that near yearly visits since the park's opening had made me an expert..lol). If I'm not mistaken every night at midnight there is a laser show and fireworks "New Years celebration" from Pleasure Island. I know it is still listed under the WDW info and was there on our last visit.

you could be right about the fireworks, but in all honesty by midnight we were all OUT....sleeping that is...exhausted from our FUNDERFUL days ..... I have to comment though, if there were fireworks we never heard them. We only heard things going on in DTD/Pleasure Island when we were on the balcony and NEVER while inside our room. I thought that was fantastic for being so close to DTD.

I cannot for the life of me find the information listed online, but I am pretty certain that the nightly fireworks at DTD have been discontinued - pretty recently.

Currently at SS and when hubby and I checked in and they got the map out and circled the last building in Congress we both kind of thought yuck but after being here a few days we love it. Our balcony overlooks Pleasure Island and the West Side, great view. It is so quiet here it is great. And a few up above we're right about no fireworks anymore at Pleasure Island. We have walked to DD every time we have gone over because our building is the closest to the path. If you want to go up to the Carriage house you can ride most buses from our bus stop because they stop at Congress most times first and then Springs. Coming back you do either have to walk or catch an inner-park bus, which we haven't seen many. We're trying quiet pool today. If we come here again we won't hesitate to request Congress again. :cool1:

Great thread! We're staying at SS in mid March and I'm also struggling with what section to request. We're planning on hanging out at the resort a lot.

wordzylady are you using internet access from your room? Have you checked out the Community Center? What type of activties are there? I read somewhere about a pool party on one night - but I don't know what night of the week. Any ideas? Have a great trip and thanks for posting while on vacation!

TTFN3, We always bring our computer on vacation and I am using internet access in our villa. To tell you the truth, we have not spent much time up near the Carriage House and the stuff up there because we are the last building in Congress and it's a long trip up there for us to walk. We could catch any park bus up there but then you have to walk back. We haven't seen any inner-park buses. Anyway, sorry I can't help you out on the Community Hall and such........first trip without a teenager who would have all the scoop. :cool1:
