I have my three nights booked at the Grand Californian (Thurs. night up to Easter Sunday). Now I need to decide where to stay for the next 5 nights of our trip.

We want to go to the San Diego Zoo and possibly Sea World. DDs (15 & 17) want to see the Hollywood sign, Rodeo Drive, and want beach time - weather permitting.

DH and I would like to stay at a resort and prefer a suite for privacy. I found the Marriott Newport Coast Villas online http://www.marriottvillarentals.com/vc/resorts/nc/aboutresort.asp#ame Does anyone know anything about this resort? Any other suggestions on where to stay? We will be flying out of LAX on a noon flight and will have a rental car to return so we don't want to be too far north.

Thanks!
Jeannie

I have heard good things about the Dana Inn in San Diego. There is also the Hotel del Coronado, which I would imagine is quite wonderful. You probably can't go wrong with a Marriot.

I am a big fan of Dana Inn in SD, but I don't think it fits in with what you're looking for in a resort. I agree that Marriott's are almost sure to be great, but I'm not familiar with the one you mentioned. Maybe you could look into the Coronado, like cuterlt mentioned? It is beautiful and historic, and I think it might be something you might like.

As far as the Hollywood area, are you planning to go to Universal Studios? I have friends who really like the Sheraton there. You could walk (I think) to Universal Studios and City Walk, and you'd be very close in driving distance to the Hollywood sign and Rodeo Drive, and not that far from the beaches either.

I think the Hollywood area is less than a 45 minute drive to LAX, but a CA native could answer that question better.

I would suggest you stay at hotels in the LA/Hollywood area for your Hollywood visit as well as a San Diego Hotel for your Seaworld, etc. visit. Traffic can be a bear. Our rush hour seems to start earlier and end later during the week. It can be very congested, even on the streets. You don't really want to have to plan around that but if you don't, you could wind up on the road for a long time. If you stay in the respective cities, you'll minimize that.
