Where to start?

I've been a member of the DIS for a while now, but this is my first time posting here on the WISH boards. I have to admit, I'm a little overwhelmed by all of the different posts/info here. I'm basically looking to try and start walking with hopes of eventually working myself up to running. My goal is to one day be able to run in Disney, but I know that's probably a ways away. Just wondered if anyone had any advice on a good place to start, and if there were any threads here for me to join in on. I've done a lot of lurking, but it seems most threads are about people who are getting ready to run races...and not for someone like me who's just starting.:confused3 TIA!

Look for the C25K thread on here. it is all about going from the couch to running a 5k.

Oh and

:welcome:

I just started a thread not too long ago but it's targeted to South Beach Dieters. Completing Phase 1 of SBD got me motivated to lose weight and to start walking. I started walking two days ago and I've done 2.2 miles each time. I am also referring to From the Couch to 5k.

Is there a diet or a way of eating your interested in? I know that some people do low-carb, Weight Watchers and other things. Do you have any weight loss goals? If so, tell us about it.

Thanks for the reply. To be honest, I'm not really following any particular diet or plan. I've tried Weight Watchers before, but in my opinion, the points are too hard to track, especially when I cook at home. I've found that just watching what I eat, being healthier, and portion control works better for me.

I've never been a runner, but know that if I set my mind to it, I can be. I don't mind walking, but know that I would have to really work hard to make my way up to running. I just think that it would be easier if I had a proven plan to follow instead of trying to make up my own.
