In November I'll be staying at SSR with 2 friends who are training for a marathon. During our stay they will need to complete a 20 mile run. Does anyone know what route they should follow? Will they need to run on the roads or are there paths or trails they can run on? If they have to run on the roads, does anyone have any suggestions for a route? Thanks - Barrie

My only suggestion would be that they attempt to follow most of the WDW marathon route. It looks like the "official" route map can be found here (PDF). Here's another site with some tips on running at WDW, which may or may not be useful, but it does describe the running paths at several resorts.

Have a great trip - and good luck to your racing friends! :)

Disney doesn't really like people to run on the roads. Too much of an opportunity to get hit by a car or bus. There are times when they will stop you and drive you back to your resort.

Most of the resorts have some sort of jogging trail but it is usually under 1.5 miles long. I would just check at the resort to see what they suggest.

Thank you both for your replies. It doesn't seem like this is going to be easy to figure out. How about places off property? Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks again - Barrie

YOu could also try a treadmill.

As far as off property---unless you head into downtown around the lakes over there or the Econ trail....it could be tough.

YOu might try posting on the CB as not all runners post on WISH and see if you have any luck.

I'd head to 192 - not sure how much pavement (sorry, sidewalk) they have there at the moment, but it's the longest potential straight route. When I need to do a long run in Disney vicinity, I head to Celebration, there's a relatively long 'round the block' run which I do. Your friends could possibly lap this twice and, depending on the pavement situation on 192, they could then head out onto the main road, head east (? - right) for a few miles (left will see you tangled up in the I-4 underpasses), then reverse and come back to Celebration to complete the distance. You might need to do a drive by to check out this possibility, but it really is easier than trying to run on Disney property.

It won't get you 20 miles, but you could run over to OKW on the path, then back through SSR, through DTD, over to the DTD hotels, maybe across to Goodings area, then down towards Palm Parkway. Stay on the paths and sidewalks. Don't run on the roads.
