Where to rent a car inside Disney?

Do any of the Disney hotels have car rental locations if you just want to take a day or two to Universal, Sea World, etc?

The Dolphin has a National desk. We used it last time and it went pretty well. However, they use the valet to bring up and take back your car, so you have to allow for some tipping on top of the rental cost. There's also a Car care center on WDW property that I think you can call and they will come to your hotel and pick you up. There are National/Alamo cars there, I think. I've read they're not always timely, though with the shuttle. Also 1 or 2 of the Downtown Disney Hotels have car rental places. You could take a bus to DTD and then walk to the hotel to get the car.

Would we be able to return the car to the airport if we rent from National at Dolphin?

Yes, we did this last time because we had a coupon for a free day. The coupon was unable to be used for a pickup at the airport on 2/16, so we rented one car from 2/16-24, pickup at the airportna dn return to the Dolphin, and then we used our free day coupon to pick up at the Dolphin on 2/24 and return to the airport on 2/25. Just be aware that the desk at the Dolphin is only open 8-5, I think.

I'm pasting this from another thread in hopes of getting a response.

I'm curious too. Anyone??

I have a ressie at the Car Care Center on our last day, but I'm wondering about changing it. I think we're going to spend our last park afternoon & evening at MGM & do Fantasmic. I'm thinking about taking a Disney bus to the Dolphin (probably from MK) to pick up the rental before we go to MGM. That way we could drive back to the hotel after Fantasmic & maybe get a little more sleep than we would have if we took a Disney bus. Plus we'll already have the car the next morning instead of dealing with that while we're also trying to get checked out. Is this doable? Will it be a hassle?

If I stick with CCC, can you walk there from TTC? I know you can set up a shuttle to CCC, but my DH doesn't like to set up specific times for things. Would we be able to just take the monorail to the TTC at some point in the day & get to CCC on our own?

Thanks for any info.

I don't think you can walk to the CCC from anywhere, but I'm not sure.

I think it's a great plan to get the car at the Dolphin. YOu could either Take the bus from MK to MGM and then one of you take the Boat back to the Dolphin, or do as you said and take a bus from MK to Dolphin. It would definitly cut down on hassles in the morning.

We just rented a car at disney on March 27th and it worked perfect. I rented the car on line from Alamo for a special they were having. We needed to get 6 of us to Universal for the day. A premium car for 1 day was $36. They sent a shuttle for us at the Pop Century at 7:30am. We had the car from the disney car care center by 8am. We then returned the car at 8am the next morning and they took us wherever we wanted on the shuttle, we went to Epcot. It worked perfect.

Why did you wait to rent a car once you got to WDW? Isn't it less expensive to just rent a car at the airport than it is to pay for a shuttle/limo and then pay for a car rental? I think I figured that for our 7 day vacation, it ended up being $50 more to rent a car for the whole time vs using a limo (rt). This would give us more flexibility but as we are staying at a DTD hotel (Double Tree) and can use Disney transport, it might be $50 wasted. If I can wait to decide when we get to the hotel and still save money, that would be wonderful!

AMaloy314 - I'm new to the thread - but I wanted to rent a car for the day to see the ocean. I didn't want the hassle or the expense of having one the entire trip and I can't believe I didn't think you could rent them outside airports. Just my two cents on why you might want to ....
