I have been looking for months to purchase a 6 foot multi fold ramp. I was wondering if anyone knows a good company to buy from and anything in particular on a ramp I should be aware of. For years my husband has been lifting the scooter up into the van. But it has been becoming to difficult for him. We rented a ramp last time and it worked out great.

Mamabunny- I have checked there. Also looked at ez access ramps and PVI ramps. Just don't exactly what I should be looking for or to avoid when purchasing a ramp.

@wisbucky - I have started to consider buying a ramp lately, just to have for the inevitable day when I can't lift 35 pounds anymore.

I'm like you - I don't really know what the best features are, or what would be a deal-breaker, but so far it seems like these are some of the things that will be important to me:

- weight of the ramp(s)
- how small it folds down to (or how much space it will take up in the car)
- does it have a handle or carry point
- how long it will stick out behind the car when I am using it (don't want to have someone hit it while driving through the parking lot)
- how it will attach to the car, and if a bracket system or some other mounting point will be required
- will it cause any damage to my bumper or the rubber gasket on the sill

I would be glad to add to my list anything you can think of! I will say that I have noticed that some of the pet ramps have a fairly high load capacity - my personal scooter only weighs 35 pounds without me on it, so I may be able to get away with a relatively lightweight & inexpensive solution.

Instead of a ramp, you might want to look into a battery operated lift that is inside the vehicle. I have folding ramps and they heavy on their own. I got mine from Discountramps.com. They are also quite long.

I think our ramp came from Harbor Freight, but when I look on their website I do not see any thing like what we have. It is aluminum and 6 foot long so it fits in the bed of our truck along with the scooter. It folds in half.

It is not too bad to slide it out and then unfold it. We do have to watch where we park but hubby uses the scooter mostly in Disney World and we just valet park. We then explain that we need to unload first so we pull up to a curb out of the way. We have never had a problem doing it this way.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I would prefer a ramp over a lift is that I could then take my ramp + my ECV in any of our family vehicles. If I install a lift, I am stuck with one car! ;)

We have had our PVI ramp for 10 years now. It has some wear and tear but still in very good shape. Ours weighs about 50 pounds and folds in half and then each side folds too. We love ours the only down side is when it rains it does get rather slick very fast. Other then that we love ours.

Where did you rent a ramp from? We're in the same position We lift 2 ECV into the back of a rented van.
