We decided to rent a car on Mother's Day to go to the beach and possibly to Hollywood.

If we take Harbor Blvd to the beach, were can we park and does it cost?

What about parking in Hollywood? Is there any parking at the Disney Soda Fountain?

TIA! :thumbsup2

Amber, there is public parking at both Newport and Huntington Beaches. Newport is more limited, and Huntington has huge amount of spaces. Just make sure, that wherever you park, it is fairly close to the piers. That's where all of the action is.:dance3:
I don't know anything about Hollywood.:rolleyes1

Do I want action or do I want a space that's not so crowded? I hate going to our beach during tourist season. Too crowded and the people are rude and obnoxious.

Is there anything of interest in the "action"?

I don't know anything about Hollywood.:rolleyes1

:rotfl2: What's that supposed to mean? :rotfl2:

Thanks a bunch! :flower3:

By action I mean, people watching, major volleyball and surfers, the "Strand" (beach sidewalk,) walking on the piers....I guess what you might see on TV of classsic So. Cal. beaches. If I was a tourist that's what I would want to see. I just think it's fun, and I don't remember any rude people. Huntington is huge.....lots of beach and lots of parking. But Newport has cool houses right along the strand that you can walk on. It's a very beachy feel, and very laid back atmosphere. It's hard to explain. You just need to go and find out.

About Hollywood I am clueless. Haven't been there in years.:sad2:

Hope this helps some!

There is a parking structure across the street from the Soda Shop on Hollywood and Highland.

Try Laguna Beach a few miles south of Newport (just stay on PCH). Laguna offers the best mixture of people watching, restuarants, beaches, and quaint shopping.

For a real treat, get a room at the Montage Hotel. If you don't feel like spending the money, grab some sandwiches and picnic in front of the hotel (its all public access in a deal between the hotel and the city). The grounds are beautiful and the views of the ocean are to die for. (The beach is great too).

Sounds great! We probably won't do the hotel, though. Trying to keep costs down so I have more shopping money! :cloud9:

Laguna is beautiful also like the poster before said. Very artsy, and a more upscale feeling. Quaint and classy! Actually, all the beaches are fun. Can't go wrong if you ask me.:yay:

Kovets, Thanks for the advice on the sandwich place in front of the Montage. Think I'll try it next time were down there.:goodvibes

Tinkermel,

No problem at all - there is a parking structure (very limited, but if you get there early you can grab a space) just south of the Montage. If not, there is plenty of street parking.

Just to clear things up, there isn't a sandwich shop in front of the Montage. The grounds are public, so we pick up some Togo's or bagels and bring them with us.

Here is a picture of the hotel ... the grassy area on the left is the perfect place for a picnic: http://us.ext1.yimg.com/leo/imgs/T/T08201/T08201_EXT_01_J.jpg

The parking structure at Hollywood and Highland is reasonable. They validate, but not for the soda fountain. I think there is parking for that on the soda fountain side of the street, but I may be wrong.
