Where to lunch in MGM?

My husband and I will be spending one day at MGM for our September trip. In the past we have tried, 50s Prime TIme Cafe (so-so), Hollywood and Vine (not bad), and The Hollywood Brown Derby (really good).

Since we liked Brown Derby so much, we have eaten there the past four or five times we have been to MGM. But, I might be willing to try a new place if anyone can recommend one. Is Mama Melrose's any good? I've heard some scary stuff coming out of the Sci-Fi Place.

Any suggestions? Even a good counter service place would be considered.

Hmmmm. Is it just me, or do the restaurant options at MGM seem to be a bit limited?:(

Thanks!!!

We have eaten at the of the restaurants you mentioned. I liked Mama Melrose with great salads, fire-baked pizzas and other nice entrees. We are returning to Sci-fi in June because the two 12 year olds want to eat there. I figure that sandwich fare can't be that back. We had a good meal the last time but that was two years ago. You amy also want to take the boat to boardwalk for a break and eat at ESPN or Spoodles. Its about a 15 min boat ride. Just a thought.

Another vote for Mama Melroses... I had a great artichoke pasta dish there with a nice salad... my daughter had pizza..

Fast service, friendly restaurant.. can get busy though

We LOVE Mama Melrose's, it is probably one of our top 5. Reasonably priced, cute atmosphere and the pizza is the best!! We usually go there for dinner, but I imagine the lunch is probably the same! Enjoy!

We like Mama Melrose very much but usually do dinner there. Flatbread pizzas, soups and salads are very good.
As for Sci-Fi, it gets bad reviews, I think, when people expect too much of it. To me, it's a place where you get a cheeseburger, fries and a milk shake, all in a very unique atmosphere. Anything more complicated than a burger and you're asking for trouble, but if all you want is a quick bite, then maybe you'll enjoy it.
Have fun no matter what you choose!

We love Mama Melrose for lunch. In fact we have 3 PSs there currently for our trip that begins next week. These days we eat lunch there every time we go to MGM in the am. Great salads, flatbreads, calamari and service.:D

Havent had a bad meal yet at Mamas. We love lunch because it is a nice quiet restaurant to just sit and relax. The servers are always so friendly and the food good.

Another Mama Melroses fan here!

We REALLY enjoy eating lunch at Mama Melrose. It was very relaxed, the service was great, and the new menu is superb. I recommend the Portobello Mushroom Risotto! Oh and the Sangria is some of the best I have ever tasted!

... LOL, I think Mama Melrose it is! With all the positive feedback, My husband and I agree it's definitely worth a try. It's now on my list for PSs to make in May. Thanks for all your help. I knew I could count on the DIS!!!

As Catholics, we don't eat meat on Fri. in Lent. We just had a great meatless lunch at Mama Melrose. The 4 of us shared an assortment of dishes. Esp. good was the eggplant parm & the 4 cheese flatbread. We always enjoy this restaurant. DH & I were trying to remember how we first found it. He thought that I suggested it because I had a DC discount. Yrs. later, we used it for our Fantasmic package. Never had a bad meal there & we really don't like most of the other lunch spots at MGM.

We love Mama Melrose's but I have heard that the menu has changed since our last visit. I am sure it's just as good though ;)

sueg we're having lunch at MM a week from today and will be doing meatless. I can taste the calamari now.

Somehow having lunch at MM doesn't seem like much of a sacrifice.:D Can't wait!

We always eat dinner at the Brown Derby, so the only time I ever ate lunch in MGM was at the ABC Commissary. It was okay, but doesn't even touch the BD.

My daughter had a burger and fries (very good) and I had Oriental noodles which were NOT good, very cheap tasting, reminded me of the Ramen noodles you can buy for 33 cents!
My DH and son had chili dogs from an outside stand on their way down to TofT. They said they were great.

But anyhow, I love the Brown Derby and will not ever eat anywhere else when I'm there.

DH is Neopolitan/Sicilian and he makes a wonderful eggplant parm. He clearly inherited his ability from my late FIL, whose eggplant was frequently described as ambrosia. Needless to say, our family standards are HIGH for eggplant parm. Mama Melrose's version was pretty classic. Thinly sliced eggplant, breaded and fried. Bathed in good red sauce w/ a covering of Mozz. Not greasy or overly heavy. DS/15 said: "It's not Grandpa Joey's, but its good." We shared our serving, along w/ a flatbread & an appetizer, among three (Sadly, DS/8 is not an eggplant fan) and the portion, which is served over pasta, may have been a little too much for one person's lunch.

Thanks, Sueg! The eggplant sounds like something I'd like to try.

Uh Oh! Like what? We had planned on eating lunch there in Sept.

>>^..^<<, This morning I posted a question on an ivillage board regarding my experience w/ nesteggz.com. I got a helpful reply from "pusssecat" who used the same design as your username here. Was that you? If so, its "a small internet". :)

SciFi is one of those places that gets HUGELY divided reviews! I think the burgers are supposed to be pretty safe.

We ordered off the menu and got the burgers...I was surprised that they didn't even have them on the menu, but according to our waiter, they get requested all the time.

Burgers were excellent, atmosphere was great...just don't forget to get a PS!
