Where to go instead of Florida?

Agreed. Barcelona is wonderful with plenty to do and see and very cheap for a big city especially the food. Portaventura is a great place to spend a couple of days and is owned by Universal Studios.

If you want an excellent theme park and an on-site hotel try portaventra on Salou, Spain. If you can combine this with a city break to Barcelona it is a superb alternative to Orlando. We did it 2 years ago and recommend it. :worship: :rotfl2: :cool1:

you mean there are other holiday destinations????????

That made me laugh! It's a bit how I feel really. Thanks for all your suggesions everyone. I have been to Eastern Canada, Las Vegas, LA, Phoenix, San Francisco, Memphis New England (though I'd love to do that again one day) and New York area. Virginia is one I've been looking into. If I'm truly honest I just love the States and would be more than happy to go anywhere in the US but the kids really NEED a theme park nearby, then their happy. Salou may be an option but I'm so negative if it's not the US which is very narrow minded of me I know. We are the kind of family that like to have a lot to see and do. Anyone been to Germany to Europa Park?

Deb

If you want to stick with the US, but always make sure there's a theme park available, check out the list on teh RCDB - http://www.rcdb.com/tv.htm?location=1,59 - it'll show you all the parks that have coasters (let's face it, no coaster, no visit) so you can check out exactly what's in the areas you're nosing at :thumbsup2

Well next week I'll be in Kendal, Cumbria :goodvibes Not quite Disneyland :rotfl: Lets see how many Mickeys and Minnies I can get from up there :wizard:

If I am not going to Florida then my second choice will be a holiday to Canada/USA in a big motorhome. Love the outdoors but the comfort of the RV. Camping with aircon and luxuries is the only way to do it.

I have to agree with you, after 7 visits, I have had enough of the mouse and wish to visit ither places. Its not just the Disney way, I think I have had enough of America, I came back not ever wanting another burger, pizza, steak !

I know my wife is keen on going round britain in the car on a sort of Bill Bryson road trip, which I quite fancy, but other places for us are

Visit Iceland again.
Cananda (Vancouver).
A holiday in the snow somewhere.
France (again the wife loves it here)

one of Bill Bryson's first books - i forgot the name - the road trip all around the US after his dad died...
i love that book and i've always wanted to do something similar...
maybe when i retire.....

for you coaster fans you really MUST visit Cedar Point in Ohio at least once in your life...
Cedar Point has the most roller coasters of ANY park in the entire world...

and it's one of the better run amusement parks in the US....
and it also has a separate water park...

www.cedarpoint.com

here's the roller coaster page:

http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/index.cfm

my favorite is the gemini - but that's one of the older coasters there (a traditional wood coaster)....it has great air time..

of the newer coasters i love the maverick, millenium force, and magnum XL200

there are something like 17 coasters.....coaster heaven (or hell - depending on your point of view)..
