We happen to have a very old bottle of cognac we've been told might be worth something. I'm not a collector and don't want to worry about the darn thing's safety. I'd rather get a college fund started for my kids. Where do I turn?

You might try a google search for places in your area

Just wanted to say HEY:wave:

Use the internet and library before going to an appraiser, they can cost you $500 to find out your piece is worth $200. ouch!

If you confirm through research that the piece is worth the cost of appraisal, do it. They document value for you.

Ebay and Auctions are a good way to get your nest egg into a bank account.

---A piece has to be 100 yrs old or more to be considered an antique---rare and special editions tend to have a higher value.

:smooth:

How old is this bottle of cognac? It has always amazed me how much money some wines and liqueurs are worth. Sometimes they aren't even very old.

Hi gang. Thanks for the tips

I've been looking on Ebay and have never seen this bottle. It's a regular shaped full bottle with a label above the main label that says Pre-War.
The only thing I have for dates are "established in 1747", but that might just mean Remy Martin was established then. There is a stamp/sticker that barely reads "liquor tax 1947". But the bottle looks old.

Any more comments or advice?

Don't know where, Leslie, but sure did not want to miss the opportunity to say hello!!!! Miss ya around here, Leslie, and so many others too.

Have you tried a Google search for:

Remy Martin Cognac

I got a few hits including the following page that references pre-war cognac:

Since wine and alcohol are prohibited items on Ebay, I'm not surprised that your search there didn't turn up any information. I suppose that you could sell the empty bottle on Ebay, but that would defeat the purpose.

Good luck in your search.
