If we take the ME we will not be making the usual trip to the grocery store. We would like to pick up a case of beer to have in our room for the 8 days we will be there. Any sugesstions as to where to get it?

If you're gonna be down for 8 days you should probably go on and suck it up to get a cab. I know you can order groceries but doubt that anyone would deliver beer. You could get a cab from your resort to a gas station (hess on property) or to a local grocery store. Have them wait on you and bring you back. Your other choice is to skip the ME get a cab from the airport and stop on the way in.

A cab from the airport cost me about 35 bucks without stopping. Figure in a quick stop and your up to say 45 bucks. Now if you take the ME then a cab the cab from the hotel out and back would probably be 20-30 bucks. I'm just thinking it might be worth that 10-15 dollar difference not to have to wait on the ME at the airport. But we drive down usually so I'm not the best reference.

I have heard, but don't think I'll be trying this of some people that take Disney Transportation to Boardwalk and then walking to the gas station (Hess?), but that sounds like too much work while being on vacation.

With that being said, mind if I ask those that may have shopped around the stores near WDW, what brands of beers are for sale at or near the world? Is it just the big macro brews like Bud and Miller or do they sell some local or microbrews?

Wegoshop will deliver beer & wine along with any other grocery items you may want. IMHO the delivery fee is well worth the convenience and savings on water, snacks and fruits as well as the occasional beer or glass of wine.

When using DME, we always order cereals, snacks, fresh fruit, snacks, water soda beer & wine and have been very happy with the prices and service from wegoshop. You do have to reserve with a cc'# and fax a copy of your ID to order alcohol in advance.

FWIW at taxi from the Boardwalk to the airport cost me $57.00 plus tip in October.

I am planning on ordering water from Costco and having it delivered to the hotel and waiting for us when we arrive. I was hoping to be able to do the same with the beer. I will have to look into a little farther and see if it is worth ordering from the Wegoshop or just having DH walk to the Hess store which he may be perfectly fine with if he leaves from the Boardwalk.

I don't know if you were planning on getting any other groceries, or not. We are going for 10 days, and I was looking @ Gardengrocer.com, and realized they didn't have beer/wine. I called them, and they said that if we give them advance notice, and exact brands/amounts, they would pick that up for us as well. Just a thought for you if you were wanting any other "goodies" in the room as well.

I did not find any liquor store delivery companies by Disney and mail order beer is expensive to ship due to the weight.

I used WEGOSHOP in Nov. THEY WERE GREAT and I will use WEGOSHOP (Marge) again. They will shop at what ever grocery store (or other store) that you want.

I had them go to Publix supermarket which has decent wine and beer selection. They got groceries, fruit, beer (Corona in cans so we could bring to the pool) & bottles of wine (I gave them brands, type and size). I gave them an exact list of brands and sizes.

They will not leave beer and wine with bell services though so you must arrange to meet at the room. They will deliver right to your room though.
We had them come at 9:30 pm (last delivery of the night) after younger kids were worn out.

We also had them go to the liqour store to get Gin. They charged an extra $5 to go to an extra store.

They do not mark prices. They give you the store receipt for your items and add on the deliver fee. You van pay by cash or credit card and maybe a check if pre-approved.

OT: I had looked into Wegoshop as well, but I was more attracted to gardengrocer only because, albeit limited, I saw exactly what they have available. Not being from the area, how would I know what stores are better than others (pricing and/or selection), what brands they carry, what sizes w/ in each brand, etc.? It seemed like it would be more of a headache. Maybe I am wrong.....

You don't need to know what stores etc you just tell them the brands you like and they know the best stores to shop at. I just take my grocery list from home and adjust that to what I would like on vacation.

Wegoshop has left beer & wine with bell services for me in the past, like I said prior I had to fax my ID in advance. Of course the policy could have changed.

Have you considered buying a case of beer at home, packaging it and shipping it to your resort via UPS or Fed Ex?

I actually had not thought about that. I may do that though. I can ship from my work and it will not cost me anything. My only worry is that the beer would be really shaken up and be flat? Does that happen?

I was going to pack snacks and such along with baby food and diapers and check the small bag at the airport. That will save us $ since we but diapers in bulk anyway. I will only need to get the beer while we are there. DH can always run to the gas station and get the beer as long as they have it or I will just ship it there. I can put Fragile on it so they don't through it around.

shopping list is easy. It was well worth the delivery fee.

They can shop at a grocery store, super walmart, etc.

I used Publix because I have vacationed in Florida.

example:

1 13 oz Folgers coffee

1 box wheats worth crackers

1 bag Lime flavored Tortilla chips (Tostitos)

1 - 8 oz salsa (not hot)

8 or 12 oz block sharp cheddar (store brand)

2 lbs gala apples or granny smith apples

1 box Entenmann’s chocolate frosted donuts

You can buy six-packs of beer at all the Disney resort gift shops. Granted, it comes out to about a dollar a can but it's still cheaper than the $5/bottle they charge at Disney restaurants. We drove last time and took beer with us and we didn't drink it all......just too tired. :upsidedow
