Does anyone know who sells rain ponchos other then the cheap ones sold at the dollar store. We used those last vacation and they are just too flimsy. Don't want one's that cost $30, but definetely an upgrade from the Dollar Tree ones. Thanks

If I remember, the Disney Parks ones are about $8 and are quite good quality wise. They can definitely be brought home and reused on another trip.

The positive about the $1 store ones, is they are very compact to carry around :rolleyes1

Assuming you don't want to buy the ones available at WDW....

Sporting goods places, camping equipment places, even Walmart if the particular store has a big hunting/fishing/camping gear section, all carry ponchos that are under $10 but that are made for multiple uses (unlike the Dollar Store disposables).

DH and I both have Magellan ponchos. They were in the $30 range which seemed ridiculous for a poncho but they are AWESOME. No water gets in, they are made of a light material that doesn't stick to you, they fold up easily, and we are on our fourth year with them. Aside from Disney, they've revolutionized walking the dog in the rain. Totally worth every penny I paid and more.

We've bought Coleman ponchos (as in the camping products company) for around $5 and it wasn't significantly better than the dollar ones. Disney's are better if you want to keep it for future use. If not, spend $1 and throw them out at the end of your trip.

We didn't find the Disney ponchos to be all that great, IMO. They ripped at the neck and where they fastened under the arms to make the sleeves around the snaps. :confused3

So we plan on taking the dreaded dollar store ponchos, one for each day to dispose of each night. Yep, they're cheap, but good enough for one day's use and still cheaper than the Disney ones to buy enough for a week.

Having said that, I agree that Wal-Mart sometimes has very good ponchos int he sporting goods section.

I know they're overpriced but I bought my Mickey poncho at Walt Disney World in 1998 and still have it and use it every time I go! That's been about 8 trips since it was bought. Its been very sturdy and durable and I definitely got my money out of it!

I've never owned a rain poncho, (so maybe you should take this with a grain of salt...) but I've seen some decent looking ones at Publix. They come in what looks like a mesh thing to zip it back up in when you're done with it. If anybody else knows what I'm talking about maybe they could help OP out with what brand they are? :confused3

The price won't make you happy, but the ones available through the ricksteves.com online store are wonderful. If you take the previous poster's description of the Magellan ponchos and just copy/pasted it here it would be appropriate. And they fold into their own pouch.

Those are the ones we have. They were in the pharmacy section of Publix and I think $7.99 for adult, cheaper for child.

They hold up great, don't stick to you, and fold back up into the mesh bag very easily. I don't know the brand since I threw away all the inserts from the bags but I would highly recommend them.

ETA: Raines by Totes I found a picture of them on my blog. :thumbsup2

D'accord!

We bought our ponchos @ WDW 5 years ago and keep them in our OL. They are not too heavy to carry around in backpacks as needed.

I personally really like the ones they sell at Disney!

They have them pretty much everywhere merchandise is sold, and they're thick/strong enough to last through a week. I usually kept a small bag in my bag to wrap it up in after the rain passed, and made sure that we aired them out at the end of the day, and they lasted the whole time we needed them!

I agree w wal mart. But I do. Bring the dollar store ones. You can trash them instead of carrying around a wet poncho everywhere!

Why does everyone seem to go with a rain poncho at Disney as opposed to a rain jacket? Is it because they fold up more compactly or something else?

Two years ago we bought some at the shop in DTD where everything is under $10. They were light blue and gray I think. Very nice and a cheap souvenir. They still had them last May but idk if they still do.
