Okay - my hubby leaves for deployment in 6 weeks. I want to get him a Wii for christmas. We've been searching for one for over a year now. So now I'm on a mission.... as soon as he's gone. I work full time, so I cant really go wait in lines, and I don't do much shopping to just "happen" upon one. And I really would prefer NOT to pay $500 for the thing. $249.99 seems like enough for me!

Any suggestions???

Thanks!

Do a thread search! Within the past few days, I saw a thread about selling a wii! You may get some good ideas of where to look!

We found a wii 2 times randomly - each on a wednesday or thursday afternoon at target.

I did go to target on sunday AM per the target ad ("Wii Mania") and got my parents one, and a wii fit for myself. We heard about it through this board and got there early. Be prepared - people line up early. They did get 89 in stock that day and still had a few left over during the week.

Basically, someone usually gets the target ad early, and they post it on the DIS. Target may get 2 or 80 in - you have no idea. Best thing to do is to go early. And bring a piece of paper with you to make a list of who gets there first (someone was doing this when I got there and the target employees actually followed her list).

I can vouch for wiialerts.com. I used it Christmas 2007 to find a Wii, and again a few weeks ago to find Wiifit. It took about a week, and there were a few false alarms, but if you are close to your computer during the day it works like a charm.

First off... Thanks to your husband (and you) for serving our country!!

Call Toys R Us. I called on a Friday & they were out but said to call back on Saturday morning. Got busy & didn't call until Saturday afternoon & they still had 6 in stock. We love our Wii! TRU told me that they get shipments throughout the week & to just call before coming in. Good luck finding it.

I totally agree with OP. I was at Toys r Us on Tuesday and they had about 13 in stock. I got one for DD for Christmas. I would call and check with them. Good Luck.

I also agree with the rec for wii alerts but I can never seem to get there in time. For what it is worth, when i went to target the sunday of wii mania, I didn't actually wait (except to pay). I got there right at 8am and walked on in as they opened the doors. Good luck!!

We found ours by chance at Blockbuster. It was the same price as everywhere else, but apparently few people know they sell them there.

I just got one off ebay and it arrived today - perfect! I did the live.com search to find a Wii and it gave me a 25% - http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=wii&form=QBLH

click on the link to go to ebay...once there I did search for Wii console Mario and there is a seller with a Wii, the sports pack with an extra controller and numchuck and a mario game for $399 + shipping. I used the ebay 10% discount and the Live cashback and ended up paying $275 - which is about what I would have paid just for the Wii after taxes!

We bought ours at walmart.com We went with a bundle package that was around $500 but I know that you can buy them seperatly. Also try other online stores like target, best buy ect.... They run 249.00

I can tell you that in the Philadelphia metro area, ToysRUs has a shipment for sale every Sunday. This past Sunday our local ToysRUs had at least 30 for sale.

If you're near one, I'd call them first thing on Sunday morning.

I found one on Wed for my DSis at Target, they had 5 in the case.

Seems like Target is getting a good supply of them.

Our Target has them quite often. I say check target as often as you can. We got our there a few weeks after release and I have seen them a bunch od times since then.

I did this too, with the basic Wii sports console. Got it today-- brand new with a receipt. After the live.com 25% cash back comes in in 60 days, I will have paid 235.00--less than retail! Good luck, and thanks to your husband for his service.

Just got back from Target and they had 4. Seems like Target or Toys R Us are your best bets.

Go Early Sunday morning when they are in either the Target or Best Buy adds in the same day Sunday paper.

Call your local stores or go in and ask about their procedures for when these are advertised in their weekly ads.

Around here, you need to be there EARLY - like at 6-6:30 am. Stores pass out vouchers for the number of systems they have. You can leave for coffee, sleep, whatever at that point. You've scored a Wii. Other people will stroll in at opening thinking they will get a system and get so angry that the games are all already spoken for. I think CC holds them for about an hour; if no one with a voucher gets them by then, they are up for grabs.

We have also purchased one with Wii alert! Works great!

It definitely depends on where you live. The one I bought last week, I didn't go to the store until about 2PM. DS called 4 different Toys R Us and they all had them in stock. Like I said, the store I finally went to had about 30 of them still available for purchase that late in the day, and Target near me had 4 last night around 8:30 PM.

Yes, that's why I advised to call and ask the procedure. As my post said, this advice is for when the games are advertised in the weekly Sunday circular. Mid-week is fair game and too hit or miss to drive around wasting gas, IMHO.
