Are you looking for lunch, dinner or both? I find it extremely helpful to use the sample menus from this site as well as allearsnet.com to help determine if a restaurant has something we'd like. As you mentioned not everything is "normal" type dishes at WDW. TS Lunch tends to be cheaper than dinner however they don't serve the same items for both lunch and dinner.
Most like Sci Fi and 50's Prime Time at MGM. DH and I ate at 50's Prime time within the last 10 days and enjoyed the pot roast and the meatloaf.
Others have mentioned Ohana for dinner at the Poly and the Garden Grill at EPCOT. Both are all you can eat. The Garden Grill is a character meal for both lunch and dinner. We tried the Garden Grill for dinner just a few days ago and enjoyed the food.
DH and I are not too adventurous. We've eaten lunch at the following within the last 10 days and both of use found something we liked. Grand Floridian Cafe (GF), Liberty Tree Tavern (MK), Plaza Restaurant (MK), Whispering Canyon Cafe (WL), Rose and Crown (WS EPCOT), Chefs de France (WS EPCOT).
Boma (AKL) for breakfast is good. Drinks (including juice) are included in the buffet price. Besides having specialty dishes they have the usual bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes, carved meats, pastries, cereal, omelets made to order, pancakes, waffles and fruit.
