has anyone had any success while on atkins at WDW? we are going for just under 1 week and i JUST started this diet, and anticipate much success! disneyworld has many many great sweet treats that i just love and have to have! but the walking 10-13 miles per day added along w/ doing atkins while i am there is making me think i dont want to cheat!! i want to come home thinner than i left! other than the yachtsman steakhouse, does anyone else have any suggestions for food places & ideas on what to eat while on atkins diet? the thought of not getting my no way jose at beaches & cream is KILLING me!!!! but the thought of an extra 5-10lbs gone while walking around really works for me too...help!!!

I did Atkins for a year - lost >80 pounds, kept it off for a year, and over the last year let 20 pounds creep back on. Now I am back on Induction and leaving for WDW tomorrow.

You can eat on Atkins practically anywhere in WDW - most places have excellent salads, and they will alter any entree to suit you, as well as substitute side dishes if you want. The servers are pretty Atkins aware, too, so if you ask about how a sauce is made, for instance, they either know or can found out.

Try the W.I.S.H. board here on the DISBoards (look a little further down the page) - MANY experts there!

I'm a fellow Atkins follower. This upcoming trip in April will be my third trip to Disney while on Atkins. Although you can easily make low carb dining choices and find a variety of options, I opt to not follow the plan while on vacation. What's a vacation without the good food that comes along with it? Now I don't pig out on it do to my appetite being surpressed anyways since on the plan for so long, but I do eat regular food, don't do soda except diet, but I'm guilty of taking advantage of the sweets, lol!! I have tried to follow it while on vacation, but decided against it, I just wanted to have a more relaxed vacation, and be able to do the character meals with my family. For instance when we do a Character Breakfast, If i followed the plan the only thing I can pretty much eat is bacon and eggs and I can't justify spending $18 on bacon and eggs, same with any Disney Buffet we go to. So if you plan to follow the plan while down there I would stay away from buffet meals. I am not trying to encourage you to not follow the plan, it's just my personal decision not to. Also wanna add, that the day we arrive back at home, I am back on the Plan. When I weigh myself after i've been off the plan for vacation, I find that I don't gain or loose a pound, so going off the plan for vacation is'nt a bad thing for me since I mantain the same weight as when I left, I think all the walking and sweating pays a huge part in that. Be sure to drink lots of water while down there too, vs diet soda, etc. Goodluck and have a great time.

Another thing, I would take along some Atkins Bars for snacks. This way if other people in your party stop for ice cream, dessert, etc, you will have a bar to eat.

We live low carb (hubby more so then me - I only do it for him) I let go on vaca, but he tries to be good. We travel a lot and Disney is one of the hardest places to stick to it. Dinners are fine - you can get a steak and ask to substitute potatoes for green veggies - etc. Its the lunch that gets hard - how many bunless burgers can one man stand? Salads are a good bet - cobb salad at Brown Derby was great!

Cobb salad at Brown Derby is an Atkins dream! Lots of good chicken Caesar-type salads around that work too. Skip the bread, substitute veggies for the starch anywhere. Don't beat yourself up if you don't stick to it 100%, just get back to it as soon as you return.

I love Atkins. I was so skinny until I had my daughter. Gained 27 pounds while pregnant and never lost an ounce! Can you believe--had a 7# baby and didn't lose an ounce! I'm only 5', so 27# is a ton of weight on me. Fast forward to DD's 6th bday at WDW. Saw myself in pictures and decided that she was too old to blame "the baby" for me being chubby. Hit Atkins as soon as we got home in late January and by May, the weight was gone!!! I am back to thin and loving it. So, good luck--Atkins can get you great results and it's not a terrible way to eat at all. (And I was/am a sugar/dessert addict! If I can do Atkins, anyone can.)

Good luck and enjoy!!
