This will be our first NYE, We usually leave for disney on NYD. We were wondering where the place to be is so that we can make some dining plans.

Take the busiest day you can imagine and double it --- that's NYE at WDW. This year it is a Monday so there's a chance crowds will be a smidge lower than in recent years when people had the weekend as a cushion for return to work or school. It's really crazy but it's also a lot of fun.

As to where to make a reservation for dinner --- decide which park you want to spend NYE at and then pick something in that park. This is not the day for park hopping. All the parks (except AK) have spectacular fireworks at midnight and all kinds of "extra" entertainment going on throughout the eveing. MK is, of course, the most popular and fills to capacity. Epcot is a lot of fun but you need to remember there is alcohol served. The atmosphere around the countries is pretty "adult" in atmosphere. MGM sometimes has a special name performer -- not sure if they've been continuing this in recent years or not.

There is some info posted on the DIS about special menus already released for NYE -- California Grill always has a high priced evening event.

Have fun!

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but it is possible you wil simply have to take what you can get at this late date. Since NYE reservation have been available for over a month, and with the DDP, reservations in general have been hard to come by. NYE has, as said, been the single busiest day at WDW, so I would pick a park and try to see what reservation you can get, not planning to leave that park at all during the day. Good luck!! :)

We are skipping the parks on NYE and also want to make a nice dining reservation. Any non-park suggestions?

OK- I made my reservation for Whispering Canyon. Hope my parents like it.

Jiko's at AKL. Hands down the best non-park restaurant at Disney in my book.

We are staying at the BWV. We'll be spending the afternoon at MGM and have dinner reservations at Brown Derby. After dinner, we can either continue to enjoy the festivities at MGM, or we'll head back over to the Boardwalk and enjoy the fun there. We will not be park hoping and agree with the other poster to try and get ressies at the park or resort where you will be staying.

Several years ago, we did manage to snag ressies for NYE at restaurant Marakesh (probably less than a month out), however, that was before the Dining Plan. You'll have to get on it ASAP if you want to get a ressie somewhere.

Good Luck,
Lissa

I made an ADR for the Concourse Steakhouse on NYE for 5:30pm. We aren't sure what we want to do for the evening though. NYE will be the last night of a 10 night trip for us so we just need to figure out where to go on NYE. We are leaning towards MGM right now.

Ooh! I never thought of that! I should probably book then!

My family spent the millenium NYE at EPCOT. We had dinner at Teppanyaki and really enjoyed it, but we made our resy minths in advance. At that time they allowed you to exit the park and return later with your handstamp. If they are still allowing this, you could try for a reservation at one of the BW or Y&B restaurants then return to EPCOT for IllimuNations. It will be a special version of the show.

On that trip people were staking out their spots around the lagoon by early afternoon. It was a great time except for the walk back to the bus stop for the resorts afterward. I wish were were staying at one of the EPCOT resorts that night! Disney crowd control seemed non-existent that night, but the good news was that the lights did not go out (Y2K bug). ;)

Thanks everyone. I know I know, I should have done this last month but it slipped my mind and I really don't care a whole lot about NYE. But I also don't want to be sitting in the room either.;). If we wanted to try for MK what would be the best way to get home to AKV. I would rather take a taxi on this night just for the fact that I know how bad it will be, but will I have to take the Monerail to TTC for a taxi or would it be better to walk over to CR? Any suggestion for a NYE Rookie would be a big help. Thanks everyone. :thumbsup2

If you are leaving from the MK, I would not be concerned about the buses to get to AKV. They are so organized at MK and easy to access, I am willing to bet that it will be faster than trying for a taxi. Disney will bring in plenty of extra buses that evening.

If you do want a taxi, IMHO your best bet would probably be walking to the Contemporary because the monorail wait will likely be loooong and there will be less competition for a taxi, at CR, but why spend the extra money. :)

Well we got Tonys at 8:00pm. That is what my wife wanted so thats what I got.;) LT sounded alot better to me but maybe later in that week. Thanks everyone for the help.

One more Q, Would you go to Epcot or MK?

Just a suggestion, but if you're planning on being in the parks all day you may want to make both lunch and dinner ADRs. We were at Epcot for NYE 2003 and made ressies at Coral Reef for lunch and Rose & Crown for dinner. It was worth the extra $ to have those two meals guaranteed and not have to wait in the long counter service lines, and it gave us a time and place to relax away from the crowds. They were turning people without reservations away at Coral Reef.

I think both will be great. We have only done EPCOT for NYE. Because the park is more open it will not feel as crowded and they have plenty of live entertainment throughout the day. That being said, if we get back for NYE it would likely be for MK next time. I believe it is always the first park to fill for NYE.
