I booked Mama Melrose today but I am second guessing it.
I already have Tutto Italia one night.
We've already done Hollywood and Vine and 50's Prime Time and we're trying to avoid repeats on this trip.
I'm torn between Sci Fi and Mama Melrose. DD is a vegetarian so there is only one selection at Sci Fi for her.

Do any of you leave and go to a resort for dinner? I am not even sure what is near there.
Thoughts appreciated:)

You could always take the boat over to any number of places from DHS. Swan and Dolphin, Boardwalk, Beach Club or even over to Epcot!

Is the one selection for your daughter at Sci Fi the pasta? If so, I had it on Sunday and I'm normally a pasta lover but it did not taste good to me at all.

I have never tried Mama Melrose but we also have a ressie in June for here and we are looking forward to it. I have been to Sci Fi and the atmosphere is cool here but I did not like eating in the dark and the food was not that good. So in my opinion I vote for Mama Melrose :)

I actually don't mind Mama Melrose's, though it receives inconsistent reviews on these boards. Regardless, the dining offerings at the Studios often range from disappointing to downright inedible. It's the one park my family literally ensures to never be there during a mealtime or plans to travel elsewhere to eat.

The Epcot resorts are a short boat ride or slightly longer but pleasant walk away. Perhaps consider heading to the BoardWalk for dinner at Kouzzina, which has become one of my favorite restaurants on property.

We've had dinner three times at Mama Melrose, and we've enjoyed our meals there. It's a good place for vegetarians as well. We'll be back there in July!

I'd pick Mama Melrose, we've had dinner here twice & loved it. I know it gets some dodgy reviews but we like it.

Out of the 2 "must do" restaurants every trip, one of them is the Hollywood Brown Derby! (the other is California Grill :thumbsup2 ) We love it for lunch, but I'm sure it'd be great for dinner too. Either that or what the PP said about going to the Boardwalk bc there are a ton of great restaurants there. But, like I said, we never miss Brown Derby!! :goodvibes

We don't care for any of the restaurants at DHS so we always leave and take the boat to either Epcot or Beaches and Cream at the BEach Club Resort. After we eat we head back to DHS

We always eat at the resorts.
Captains grille at the Yacht Club is great! (Love the snow crab legs)
Chef Mickeys (1 table sitting character meal) & The Wave at the Contemporary
1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian (1 table sitting character buffet)

We find that with the exception of Le Cellier and Chef de France that we need to go out of the park to get a "quality meal" . We love a nice quality..sit down meal..meet , potatoes sort of deal....

Another huge fan of Brown Derby. It's become our absolute must-do TS on our MGM day(s).

Not sure what the vegetarian options are. I always get the cobb salad.

We always do Brown Derby for dinner and leave the park for lunch. We either take the boat to Boardwalk/Beach Club area or go back to our resort food court.

What is a typical time allotment to leave DHS and go to BW and back for dinner or lunch? I don't want to spend too much time away but the food choices are not very appealing.

It depends on where you eat. We've stayed at the Boardwalk numerous times and always walk to and from Epcot and DHS. We usually beat the boats anyway, especially if there's a line. DHS to Boardwalk is about a 10-15 minute walk. It's nice, quiet and relaxing.

I wouldn't second guess MM. We ate there this past week (walked right in) for lunch and our whole party loved it. I had a cheese flatbread that was good, but had some of my DH's chicken parm. that was excellent. Both of my girl's pasta was very good as well. We will definitely be returning here again. Also, another good place that we ate at was 50's Prime Time, but if you don't like the antics that go on, then I would stay away. We have ADRs for Sci-Fi in September and cannot wait to try that one out. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Just an FYI, Sci Fi has veggie burgers. They are not on the menu, you have to request one when you order.

We ate at both Sci Fi and MM, we enjoyed them both. I personally enjoyed Sci Fi more but it might be because our server wasn't the greatest at MM.
