We've just been talking about what we will be haing to eat on the first night were there. Were planning on somewhere along I-drive that has a big selection of everything and the food is good. Any suggestions would be great :cheer2:

Thanks michelle

Hello :wave2:

It really depends on waht your after. I enjoyed TGI Fridays and Branningans on I-Drve but if I were on my first night and a bit jet lagged I would call into Denny's.

I LOVED their chicken strips & fries and have no idea what deserts I ate but all of them - on 3 occasions - were delightfull.

Somebody (maybe on this board or perhaps in the 'brits guide') described it as an american Little Chef but IMHO it was much better. I am not difficult to please but a very fussy with food, Not in a 'snob' sense - I just like plain, simple, well cooked stuff and each time I went here thats what I got.

I would second Denny's for a first night.Though we eat here most of the time in orlando but only as it's the kids fav place. :teeth:

Golden Corral (behind the Harley Davidson shop) is ok, you can pick and choose as much as you want - great choice of everything from chicken nuggets to mexican to steaks cooked as you wait. Does get busy but depends what time you're there. And there were DOZENS of desserts!! We only found this near the end of our holiday, but went back a couple of times.

Another vote for Golden Corral. Deserts there are something else. Also you can have much steak as you want included in your buffet, unlike Ponderosa.

Anything that is quick and easy suits me. I am always so tired that I start to feel very sick and feel that the table is coming towards me as my body clock is out of tune.
By the next morning I am much better and ready for a nice hearty breakfast to start the day.

We have a family tradition of Denny's on the first night. It's an American Diner with every food imaginable! Menu

After breakfast at the airport. a long journey and two meals on the plane, we never feel it necessary to eat yet again. Usually for us, it's a drink, a VERY light snack, if anything, unpack and bed!

I'd agree with the ideas on something quick and easy.
My personal favourite that fits the bill would be Olive Garden, but we had a sort of tradition with a trip to PizzaHut on our first night in Orlando. IMHO sometimes you can have too much choice and after a long flight limiting the choices was one way of making sure we had a very quick and easy meal before collapsing into bed ( aided by a couple of beers :drinking1 )

Last time there we went to Dennys on our first night.
The service was terrible, food was cold and we waited that long the kids fell asleep at the table - never been back since.

in all of our 14 trips we have never eaten on our first night..

You will have a snack on the plane, and probably find that will be sufficient.

My husband always goes to the supermarket whilst I unpack and gets a few snacks, like some fruit, juice, water etc.. and we find that is enough for us.

Body clock affects my ability to eat a proper meal . usually get a light snack from the hotel.

We have tried many times to eat a full meal but are unable to enjoy it on our first night.

Thanks for all the tips :cheer2: I think it will be a visit to Dennys as DH and his mum and dad have also eaten there on past visits :cheer2:And i have heard more good things than bad about this place :Pinkbounc The appetisers look like they should be ok for a snack, So it will be off to there and straight to bed :cheer2:

Like Vernon its a tradition to have pizza and beer at Pizza Hut on the first night. You probably wont feel like anything special after a long day but it's nice to stroll down I-Drive on the first night.

Florida Lol

The first night of the holiday is always a special time for a meal for us. Yes we are tired, but also, we are normally extremely hungry as well :teeth:

Aeroplane food is best avoided in my opinion. It lays heavy and you are all squashed up when eating it....so we have a hearty breakfast at Gatwick...a light bite on the flight and then....

GO FOR IT IN ORLANDO!!!!

We would recommend Darryl's on the first night and that has been our port of call during recent trips, however, sadly it is no longer according to SimonV. Replaced by a Mexican :rotfl2:

Therefore on the 8th June our first night meal will be taken in Houlihans.

Julian.

p.s. What are egg beaters? Advertised on the Dennys Menu????

Julian I think (only think) they are egg replacement, maybe low fat egg equivalent??

Curiosity got the better of me so I Googled them:

What are Egg Beaters made of?
Egg Beaters are made from real eggs, but only the "best part" — the whites. Then we add vitamins and other nutrients that would otherwise be lost when the yolk is removed.

Thanks Miffy.

It was my Wife asking and guess what...........????

She doesn't even like eggs :rotfl:
