Where to eat near MGM?

DH and I will be spending our first day at MGM. We have 1 more table service meal to book, and we'd like to make it for this day. I am not thrilled with the sit down restaurants in MGM (although I've never actually eaten in any of them). The menu's just don't thrill me. Where can we go for an early dinner (before Fantasmic), maybe at a nearby resort? I am not familiar with that area near Epcot & MGM, because we always have our kids w/ us and concentrate on the MK area. So, what is good in the MGM area?

You can take a boat from MGM to the Boardwalk/Beach Club/Yacht Club area which only takes around twenty minutes (depending on how you catch the boat--runs every 10 or 15 minutes). This give you a choice of all the restaurants at these resorts. Boardwalk has several restaurants, including Spoodles, which we enjoy.

I always have a sit down meal at the Brown Derby and it is consistently decent. Now in saying that, it is not great, but it is good. This last time I went I tried Mama Melrose for the first time... I thought it was ok and probably would not rush back, but I did try it so that I would know what type of restaurant it was.

50s PTC IMO has been very good as of late. We went for awhile where the nostaglia was enough to keep us returning but that wore off. So we skipped it a couple trips and since then have made it a fav spot. The food has been really good the last 4-5 times we have eaten there.

If you still want to forgo MGM for eating, ESPN club at BW is really good. Very tasty food.

If you like seafood, the Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club has a delicious clambake buffet every evening. They have a great variety and the food is delicious!! :thumbsup2

There are quite a few restaurants on the Boardwalk. Flying Fish is supposed to be good (I haven't been there yet) and I did enjoy Spoodles, although I was there for breakfast. There is also the ESPN club if you want standard game-day fare and there is a brew pub, which has some decent beer but average food.

Thanks everyone, for all of your input! We are still deciding, and you guys have some great ideas. Does anyone know how hard it would be to get from MGM to Epcot if we wanted to eat in the World Showcase?....

We love Beaches n Cream at Beach Club...don't know if it is on the dining plan though. It is super easy to get from MGM to Epcot...all you have to do is take the boat from MGM...makes stops at Swan/Dolphin, Beach Club, Boardwalk & then finally Epcot. Not a long ride at all. So, there are a lot of options!

Go to MGM and then take a boat to the Boardwalk resort and eat at Flying Fish for dinner. We ate there this past December and loved it. I had the Potato crusted Red Snapper and it was my favorite meal of our trip. The Boardwalk is a great romantic place to be at night. Take a slow walk around the whole area, it is so beautiful at night. :)

Just take the boat from MGM to the Boardwalk Resort area. If you disembark at the Yacht and Beach Club, it is an easy walk to the World Showcase. Or simply catch another boat to EPCOT.
Have a wonderful time,
Dawn

The boat that you take to Boardwalk continues on to the International Gateway at Epcot. Just take the same boat from MGM, but stay on till the last stop.

Hi lovemy3girls! I'm in the same boat (no pun intended!) as you. We're on the Dining Plan (unfortunately, not free) and need a TS for our MGM day. Like you, I don't want to use it on any of the MGM TS restaurants after reading all of the reviews. Originally I was sure I wanted the Fantasmic dinner package, just not sure which rest. Now I don't even know if I want to get the package! I was looking into nearby restaurants at the Epcot resorts, but if we can get to Epcot just as easily it would be great to try another WS rest. We already have ADR's at Le Cellier and Teppanyaki. As I had posted earlier, I don't want to waste park time going back and forth for meals. Let me know what you decide please!!!
