We made an ADR at mama melrose, but that will be our first day and I am reading so many bad reviews that I don't want to start our trip like that. I understand that every restaurant has an occasional unhappy patron, but it does seem that 80% of the people don't like Mama Melrose, so where should we eat? I know people love Brown Derby, but that's 2 sit downs. Adr's are also so hard to get for Sept, but where would you suggest I try?

Well, personally, I like MM. I love the feel of the restaurant, and I've always enjoyed my food there. I've gotten the Chicken Parm and the Grilled Tuna. Now, I will say they don't have much in the way of side items, that is something I'd like changed. They also stopped serving bread, you have to pay for it.
I already posted this today, but I'll say it again, I love the sangria there!

My family loves MM, it's a must do every trip for us. We've always had great service and great food there, not sure why it gets such a bad rap here all the time.:confused3

We liked our diner at Mama Melrose!!! Even the butter was mickey crest!!!

But beware! The temperature is very cold in that restaurant!

We tried 50' Prime Time Cafe, not a gourmet meal, but had lots of fun!:goodvibes

We are eating at MM for the first time on our upcoming trip. We usually go to Prime Time but my DS asked to try MM on this trip. I have read bad reviews along with some good ones...but then I've read good and bad about just about every restaurant we've eaten at in WDW. We will just see how things work out for us there. I'm hoping for the kind of experience we had at Alfredo's. There were lots of negatives posts regarding that restaurant but we had a wonderful waitress and enjoyed our food....and I almost didn't make an ADR there because of bad reviews I had read.

For your first day, Sci-Fi could be a lot of fun too!

We make it a point to eat at Momma Melrose every trip and we have never had a bad meal there!! I actually just booked our ADR there to take my Mom for the first time in November!! Can't wait!!!

Hubby really loved the Cobb salad at the Brown Derby, and they had a grapefruit cake. :goodvibes

We were there Aug 5th and had a bad enough experience that we will probably never chance it again. It was not a horrible thing but it was the only negative experience we had at WDW, a bad seating arrangement which was just as much my fault because I should have said something about how it was not going to work for us. I was trying to be positive about it instead of heading it off before it got bad. Coupled with a bad waiter and when I did go get my sons wheelchair to run him to the bathroom there were children playing on it while it sat next to the podium. Which was my breaking point. I should say that when I brought it to the managements attention she was VERY quick to remedy the situation. They moved DS's chair to near the kitchen and kept offering me things to make me happy until she found something that would help us :) . She was really sweet about it all. Also the tables around us that were being taken care of by a waitress were getting very good service, our waiter just seemed a bit clueless.
I am sure every place you eat you have a chance of having a bad experience honestly. We just were not fond enough of the food there to make it a repeat.

Do you need to eat at MGM? There are not that many great options there but you could go to the BW area and have dinner at Spoodles (our favorite), ESPN, or Big River? Or at BC and try Beaches and Cream. :)

We like Mama Melrose, but we love Italian food., and enjoy it after eating lots of American style food while in WDW. The atmosphere is great, and provides a nice break from the heat. We do also love 50s Prime Time Cafe, and Hollywood Brown Derby is nice (but expensive). We didn't really care for Sci Fi Theater, and it's been too long since we went to Hollywood & Vine to comment since the menu and characters have changed. I'd say give MM a try!

The only place we like is the 50's Prime Time, the food is good, the atmosphere is fun and the decor is so kitchsy!

If that menu doesnt appeal to you Epcot is just a short boat ride or walk away...so isnt Boardwalk restaurants

on our trip this past july we ate at MM for the first time and we all loved it. there was even something for my rather finnicky DW to eat. service was excellent our waitress did take time to answer any of our questions. the gelato was to die for. all of this combined with the music, which my wife insisted i only liked this place becasue they played a few sinatra tunes. honestly my only dissapointment was that they did not serve bread with our meal. i did remark to the waitress that at every meal served in an italian househlod that bread is definitly served. all in all we will return here.

we also ate at sci-fi. we have eaten here multiple times and i am still amazed at the bad reviews this place gets. food was very good, after all you are in a drive thru. theater everyone has been very happy with their food and the service we recieved has always been excellent.

we have also eaten at prime time 50's. the food was just ok but our waiter reallly made this an experience. it was so much fun that i dont think we will ever be able to recreate the experience. if you happen to go see if the waiter whom i believe in of moroccan decent, is working. he was just so awesome. it was in 2002 that we last went here so hopefully he still there.

Don't be afraid to try it.

MM is our family favorite. (And they have the best salmon I've ever eaten.) Food and service are both great. Sometimes I think attitude can make a big difference...our last trip, dh's steak was undercooked...we could have gotten upset and griped about it and ruined the whole dining experience, but our attitude is that people make mistakes, the server apologized and fixed the problem asap, and we had a great time.

On the other hand, we could skip Coral Reef and DH refuses to do 50's Primetime again. Other DISers will rave about them.

You won't know if MM is a good choice for your family if you don't give it a chance. If you decide you don't like it, then chalk it up to having tried something new and just don't do it again. Honestly, I think I'd be happy even with bad food and crappy service as long as I was at a WDW restaurant. :rotfl:

I've eaten at MMs several times now and though I've have better italian food (such as the late lamented Alfredo's and Epcot) it is very nice.

Other than that the only one I'd truly recommend is that 2 DDP special, The Brown Derby.

We've had reservations at MM's many times over the years but always winded up cancelling for one reason or another.

Ate there last trip and enjoyed it very much, will probably be doing it again this Nov/Dec trip.

We ate at MM in July and we didn't think the food was good at all. and to be honest with you, I thought the resturant itself seemed VERY DUSTY..........not very DISNEY.

I the 50's PRIME TIME is alot better, and much more fun food is god also. I haven't tried the BD yet, but I'm thinking abouth it when I go in Nov, I'm just not sure if were going to hit MGM this fall, well see.

We've been to most of the restaurants at MGM and found MM to be quite average. There was nothing we disliked about it but there was nothing to rave about either. The food wasn't anything to get excited about but it wasn't bad at all. The service was good but nothing really outstanding.

For us it's by no means a must-do. We wouldn't book an ADR there but if we happened to be hungry when we were passing by we wouldn't hesitate to eat there again.
