Where to buy...

books? It's been quite a while since the Writer's Stop closed, and even though we can still find the carrot cake cookie elsewhere, it seems to me that ... well, something has gone missing.

The Stop had such a great collection of books. I remember the last time I was there (which sadly was before its closing was even being whispered about), thinking "oh, I'll come back when I have time to really do this place justice." You know how that goes, and now I'm left haunting the park and resort gift shops, which just don't seem to have many books on offer.

Does anyone have a favorite spot to browse a wide assortment of books?

World of Disney in Disney Springs would probably have a nice selection but I've never looked before. Most gift shops will have a very limited selection.

Books are very hard to find anymore.
We saw some at the Contemporary. Looked like it was a temporary thing, World of Disney sent us there because they didn't have anything

There should be a few at Mouse Gear in Epcot. Really Amazon is your best bet for tons of Disney books, sometimes at lower prices than what you’d find on property. Plus there’s the benefit of not lugging heavy books home. We did like Writer’s Stop though, hated to see it go.

The main gift shop at the Contemporary is where I picked up mine in November, and I saw them there in January as well.

What I liked best about The Writer's Stop was it seemed to have books I never knew existed. And, while in my non-Disney life I don't buy physical books anymore (in fact, I usually just borrow ebooks from my library, even waiting on the holds list for the blockbusters--it's kind of zen), I make an exception for my Disney collection. There's nothing like sitting down with a great book and pouring over the details of park design (yes, it's absolutely what I look for sometimes, @leiaorgana) or the making of The Little Mermaid...

Thank you for your recommendations about Amazon. I have built an extensive wish list, based on my own expanding knowledge from podcasts etc. and on Amazon's eerily accurate predictions of my needs. 😁

Sometimes, though, I just like to browse shelves and stumble on great finds. I've never been to Disney Springs 😮 so maybe now I have one more reason in addition to all the great food I've read about.

Thanks for all your help!

There are a few of the Disney books at Animal Kingdom in Discovery Trading Company. I know the Hidden Mickey book is there and there are a few others but I don't remember the titles. The resorts carry paperbacks.

I too miss all the books at the Writers Stop...I've bought many Disney cookbooks from there and loved just sitting in there with a cold drink on a hot day and browse all the books. Great way to get out of the sun for a little while.

I asked this same question a few months ago (I think it was a few months ago??) and got pretty much the same replies you're getting here--it sounds like with the Writer's Stop gone, there's no single place where you can browse an extensive selection of Disney books in WDW. They seem to be dispersed to shops that match their subject areas; I know I've found the behind the scenes book on the Haunted Mansion in Momento Mori, and that kind of thing. And then of course they're available on Amazon and often cheaper, but....

But I'm with you. I liked Writer's Stop because it was a place where I could run across interesting books on Disney I'd had no reason to know existed and wouldn't have known to look up on Amazon. And it's always nice to actually handle a book, flip through it a little, and decide whether it really belongs in your collection. I was always willing to pay a little more for that.

So sadly it sounds like nowadays it's just a matter of keeping your eyes open in all the different giftshops in case there's one or two books on a corner shelf that might catch your interest.
