Okay, so I've searched all over the forum to figure out what I'm going to do about the drinking water situation (myself and my DF are going down end of July), and I've been to WDW enough times to know that you only drink from the water fountains as a last resort... I also don't want to go through the hassle of buying a Brita filter from eBay. So, what we've decided to do is buy a gallon or two of bottled water to have at the hotel, and just refill our water bottles each day. (We own several Nalgene bottles between the two of us).

SO--the big question is--where can I find (gallon sized) bottles of water on-site?? We are utilizing the new Magical Express, and are staying on-site, so we won't have any way of getting to an offsite grocery store to stock up on water. We will be taking other food items down with us on our carry-ons, but I don't think lugging around 2 gallons of water would be good. And, I know I can just buy normal-sized bottles everywhere, but I don't want to pay a fortune for drinking water.

The only options that I've come up with are:
1) Finding a "Quickie Mart" type-place at the airport when we land and hope they have gallon jugs of water. Or,
2) Some of the deluxe resorts are listed as having "sundries" shops in them, so if I can't find any water at the airport, I was going to hop a monorail to Poly and see what I can find.

Any other suggestions?? Anyone see any other shops on-site that sell big bottles of water?? Do the "sundries" shops carry (cheap) water??

The only water sold onsite is Dasani. The 1Liter bottles are the largest I've seen in the sundries stores and they are quite pricey, like close to $5 each. I remember remarking how ridiculous that was, they are the same price as the 2L sodas. I spent close to $20 in the sundrie store, fittings and fairings I think at the YC, on 6(machine sized) bottles of Diet Coke and 4 same sized bottles of Dasani. Never again. The wings at the CR have soda machines, WL, YC, BC and GF (that I can remember) do not. Good luck. Maybe one of the grocers delivers?????????

This might sound like a weird suggestion... but do you have a regular Brita or another kind of pitcher with a filter at home? You might want to pack the pitcher in your suitcase and fill it from the tap each morning, then fill your bottles from it. Similar result as using the Brita bottles but without the hassle of finding the bottles and small filters.

The other alternative you have is go to your local WalMart and purchase their brand of crystal light I think it's about a dollar a box.
We used it with the fountain water when we were there in May and it made the water much easier to drink.
We were able to stop at a supermarket before we went to our hotel but, with you using ME it might be easier if you took a couple of bottles of water with you on your flight.
Hope this helps you out. :earsboy:

ARE WE THERE YET!!! :rotfl:

I haven't found gallon size bottled water on site - as stated above, the largest I've found is 1L & it is Pricey! We spent a small fortune on water at AKL in A pril when we ran out of bottled water. You'd be better off taking a cab to a quickie mart or something & grabbing a couple gallons or cases...
We aren't as worried about masking the taste as we are interested in avoiding the inevitable tummy troubles we get from WDW water.....

DUH!! I can't believe I haven't thought of that!! I've been racking my brain for days, and the solution was sitting in my cabinet at home. Thanks.

Even with the Brita, I've found I don't like the taste of some filtered water (I know, I'm picky) so I think I'm going to try and stock up on as much water as I can carry at the airport. Hopefully its not too expensive.

As a side note, I refuse to buy Dasani water (although, if its all they sell in the parks, I may have to) because they add salt to it for flavor. Check out the "ingredients" on a bottle sometime--its water and salt. Maybe its just me, but if I'm buying water, I just want water...not something in the water thats going to make me even thurstier. I guess thats what you get when you have Coca-Cola make "water". And once you know this, pay attention next time the Dasani commercial comes on (the one with the guy dressed up as a bear). Shameless. They talk about thier water being "more refreshing" and "cleaner". Yea--right... If I want additives in my drink, I'll have Gatoraid, if I want water, I just want water.

We started buying the crystal light individual packets to add to he bottled water. makes for a nice change from boring water for the kids.

Well, I did some looking online, and I found This Now, I have not tried it. It is out of stock now. But, it may be an option. If anyone does try it, please let me know how it works.

Actually, they have another on there that screws onto a standard bottled water bottle. that one looks like it might even be better.

I admit I've never looked for a gallon of bottled water, but it really surprises me that it isn't sold ANYWHERE on site? I'm thinking it might be at the DVC resorts. Can anyone speak for the Screen Door at the Boardwalk, the Old Key West general store, or the Beach Club Marketplace?

THere are 2 Hess gas stations on site. One across from DTD and one near the Boardwalk. You may have to walk to get to the station but the will have gallon bottles there.

What we've done is to just buy (or bring with us) a regular sized - 1 liter or less - bottle of water and put it in ice at the hotel. Then drink it as the day goes by. When it's empty, simply fill it up again at a water fountain or back in the room. It's worked well for us.

God bless!
Mark

I've never done it but it looks like it would be pretty easy to walk across the street from the DTD bus stop to the Hess station. This would probably be a good place to stock up on all sorts of snacks and water.

What I'm planning on doing is taking a bus to DTD and then a taxi to Goodings Supermarket and get water there, then take a taxi back to POP. HTH :cool1:

If you're going to the expense of the taxi, I would ask them to drive you to Winn-Dixie, just a few blocks from Goodings. At least the prices would be better. I seem to recall water being way overpriced at Goodings.
