We just received all our information about starting school in the fall and I was wondering about good places to buy uniforms. We need very plain khaki or navy pants/skirts and white, navy or hunter green tops. I have looked at Lands End, The Children's Place and The Children's Wear Outlet. I am familiar with Lands End and TCP, but has anyone ever tried TCWO? The prices are great, but I want to be sure they will last for awhile. Any other ideas are appreciated, too.

I buy my daughter's from frenchtoast. I ordered them online. She has to wear Khaki pants and hunter green shirts.

try Target. They have a whole uniform section here in the stores. Maybe in yours as well

I'm not sure where you are located, but I buy uniforms at Mervyns, Target, Sears, JCPenney, Gymboree, TCP, Gap, & Old Navy. I just try and buy them periodically when they are on sale so I buy a little from everywhere. French Toast is available in various stores as well as online, & I do like their uniforms. Target carries a brand called @Class (& probably others) that holds up just fine.

I really don't find a difference in the way they all hold up, except some of my DD's blue shirts fade, but more makers are making them with stain guards, and more fade resistant. Most stores also carry slims, adjustable waists, and husky if you need those. Our white shirts actually hold up the best because they don't fade, & bleach worked the few times stains were tough.

When DD started Kindergarten she was actually too small for most uniforms, but I discovered that the brands are very inconsistent with sizing so I had to buy her 1 or 2 pieces from various stores & makers. Now I just buy a few pieces periodically to replace outgrown ones. I also buy ahead when on clearance, nothing worse than outgrown pants in Dec. & having to pay a fortune for them online because the stores don't have them anymore!

Look at www.gymboree.com for their selection. My kids don't wear uniforms, but gymboree clothing holds up very well for my kids.

I was going to recommend French Toast, they seem very well made.

You can get great deals on ebay too!

I think the Children's Place is having a sale on uniforms right now. :) Check it out!

About 2 month ago I was on Disneyshopping.com (now owned by children's place I guess) and I was lucky to find Disney Navy blue uniform pants- they are great and meet the uniform requirements but still have cute mickey's on the inside of the waistband. My son can't wait to go to kindergarten in fall and wear his new mickey uniform!
I got then for less than $5 a pair. They had some polos too.

For 2 years I bought DS's uniforms from Target, the French Toast brand. By the end of the school year, they looked pretty crappy. Faded and shrunk from all the washings, plus the knees wore out pretty easy.

Last year, I bought DS's uniforms at Lands End. I paid more but after the school year ended , the uniforms looked pretty much still as good as new.

I totally disagree that all uniforms are made the same because obvously at least in my case the Lands End ones wore well better then the French Toast brand.

FYI, Gymboree Uniform pants/skirts are not made as good as the regular clothes. The tops are ok, not anothing special. I'm surprised that Gymboree don't put much quality in the uniforms. I don't like Childrens Place either, quality is OK, fades and shrinks a lot. I love Target and French Toast Uniforms. Also Gap is awesome!

If anyone is interested, my daughter has outgrown her navy blue uniform dress/tunics. I have sizes 6-8, no crests, buttons on top and pleated skirt on bottom (they are one piece, not two). Easily machine washable and will last forever. I have them listed locally on craigslist, asking $5 CDN per dress. I paid over $65 for each 4 years ago.

This is the link to kijiji.ca which has picture of the uniform dress, you can enlarge it as well. The second link is to craigslist.org listing (same info). I have 5 dresses with button style/pleats on bottom, and 1 dress which has pleats from top to bottom and is belted at the waist (separate belt) - also navy colour.

I have been buying uniforms (or standardized dress as our school calls it) for 5years and have discovered that I end up actually saving money in the end if I just order from Lands End. The quality is SO much better than anywhere else and they absolutely back it up with a 100% guarantee. I have made returns (which you can take to your local Sears Store for a refund - no shipping) even on embroidered items with no questions asked.

I have been able to pass down everything to my second daughter. All the junk from Old Navy and Target and everywhere else ends up in the give-away bag or even the garbage because it fades, tears and stains horribly.

My advice, if your budget can handle it, order from Land's End. Also, our school earns a cash back reward for every purchase made by us. Check with your school for their "Preferred School Number" to see if your school is participating.

To make it a little easier, I only order shorts/skorts and short sleeved shirts at the beginning of the year (which is August for us) and wait to place my cold weather order until the end of October. But that's way down south where is doesn't really get cold until around Thanksgiving!;)

Hope that helps!

Target has the khaki or navy pant, shorts and skirts as well as the white polo shirts for 9.99 each. You can also checkout walmart we got a few shirst for my dd and I like that the polos were soft cotton.

I get my kids uniforms at Academy Sports...the prices are amazing and the quality is very good!:thumbsup2

jcpenny and sears both sell uniform items on their websites. very reliable, reasonably priced, good quality and quick service.

We wear khaki, navy, black bottoms, and collared shirts in white, grey, black, blue or orange. No cargo pockets allowed, no emblems, etc.

I have found the best places to be Land's End, LLKids and Gap. We also get some stuff from The Children's Place and Old Navy. I can't stand French Toast items. It feels hard and cheap. I have to say that Old Navy and TCP stuff wears out more quickly than Gap, LE and LLkids.
