Where to buy REAL tickets?

The hard plastic ones, or the tickety type ones? I'm wondering because when you go to check out, you have options on printing the eticket or having your tickets mailed, at cost. Why would someone pay to have them mailed if you can get the exact same ticket right at the turnstile?

They are just paper tickets, not the plastic ones that you can get from The Disney Store or some grocery stores. As far as why people choose to have them shipped to them at a cost instead of printing them for free, I can only surmise that it's because even though it's clearly stated, people still don't realize that the printout IS your ticket, and not a voucher that must be exchanged at a booth. Also *maybe* there are people that don't have access to a printer.

Well when I had mine sent to me last year, they WERE the hard plastic kind. So if I'm printing off etickets and bringing them to the turnstile and getting the paper tickets (with Disney characters on them) then I'd rather pay to have mine sent so I can get the plastic credit card kind instead....

You were lucky then. Other DISers that have had them shipped in hopes of getting the plastic souvenir tickets have posted about being disappointed that when they came, they were just paper tickets.

I just wanted to update since you guys were so helpful with this thread. I was able to buy the passes at my local (SF Bay Area) Safeway this morning. They are the hard plastic kind, and they say right on the front that they are 3 day parkhoppers at $199 (the special price). They were 'activated' but on the back they say I have to go online to 'watch the ticket come to life'.

Best of all, they have cool Buzz Lightyear space pictures on them! :D

You can purchase them from the Disney store too. That's probably what I'm going to do before our trip. However, I do like the idea of electronic, because we have lost tickets in the past. On our last trip, we lost them TWICE. Fortunately, Disney was amazing about replacing it, even though it was our own fault for being irresponsible. They even gave us front of the line passes for a day!! Still don't know why they rewarded us for being careless.:confused3 Still, it was nice and it really turned our trip around. I thought we'd be relegated to DTD for the remainder of our trip, or we'd have to re-purchase.

I read a tip once which is a really good one. At the beginning of your trip (perhaps while you're in line, waiting for rope drop on the first day) take a picture of your tickets... specifically the BACK of your tickets, with the code on them. Then if your tickets get lost, the people at guest services will probably be able to replace them for you.
