DH lost weight, his wedding band got loose and he accidentally lost it :sad1: Now we're looking online and are shocked at how much more expensive they are now compared to 18 years ago :scared1: We paid around $100 then and it looks like we'll have to pay at least triple that to get something comparable--he had a wide gold band but will be fine with a narrower one. The only reasonably priced ones ($200) at costco.com and Service merchandise don't come in his size (11). Kay's are really expensive!

Any suggestions are welcome!

Consider gold over silver. Cost is closer to what you want and a lot of cost conscious people are going that route especially for the gents. If he wore an 11, you may need to downsize or get a wider band. Did you check with lost and founds? Just on a whim some people are honest. Check a pawn shop and see if anyone tried to pawn it too.

Look at tungsten. DH's original wedding band was gold, but a few years ago for our 15th he got a new tungsten band with comfort fit.

It is an updated, modern look. It is a bit heavier than gold, so have him try it to see if he likes it.

I wouldn't limit yourself to known stores like Costco, SM and Kays. There's probably small local jewelers in your area. Just drop in and see what they have. They can size DH's finger and chances are they will have or can get you the size and style you decide on. Real 14k gold is an investment. It isn't cheap but I like its inherent quality and lasting beauty.

A pawn shop will be your best bet, but still be prepared to spend significantly more than you did when you bought the first one - the price of gold has tripled in the last 2 decades.

i just bought mine and my fiance's at a shop on etsy for $500, recycled 14k yellow gold bands.

Check Sears. Bought DH a plain gold band a few months after he lost the original. I think it's 10K and it wasn't expensive at the time (about 12 years ago.) Of course, 3 weeks after that he found the original under the seat of his truck!

No kidding! When we got married in 1996, DH's 8mm 14k gold band was $80. That same ring today? :faint:

Same thing! DH could not find his ring, so we replaced it with a 10k gold ring because we could not afford the 14k. The 10k looks just as nice and is more durable. Of course about 2 weeks later we found his ring. He likes the new one more though (more comfortable), so he has continued to wear that one.

Would he consider a titanium ring? My dh specifically requested this for his ring, because of the whole Alien movie thing, I think it's Alien, where the guy's hand and his titanium ring kept the door from closing and saved their lives or some such thing. LOL Anyway, he wanted super strong titanium. It was dirt cheap. And 8 years later still looks great.

We got his from someplace online, based in Florida I think, but I can't remember the name. Walmart.com has some starting at $19!

I agree with the PP about trying a different type of metal.

DH lost his original band when we were painting DD nursery.

We bought a really nice tungsten band for under $100.

Overstock.com usually has a pretty wide selection at decent prices. And a wide variety of metals as well.

My DH lost his gold/platinum band several years ago. (We won't even talk about how much that would have cost to replace.) and I purchased a tungsten replacement for something like $50 on overstock. When he lost THAT one, I ordered two more of the same ring - one to wear and another as a backup!

I got married 2 1/2 years ago and was shocked by how much the bands were from the jewelry stores. I also just wanted something small and plain and it seemed like all the women's rings had some sort of design or stones on them. I ended up getting mine from esty at this shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/seababejewelry?ref=l2-shopheader-name

They will make it in any size and I loved the idea that I was paying the person who made it and not a big name store.

As I remember, after we shopped for my wife's wedding band, on the way out of the store there was a big open bowl of men's wedding bands and you just reached in and helped yourself to one.

:lmao:

I would find a good, local, proper jeweler. Not a "jewelry store".

And further my advice based on experience is to not choose one who is about to retire (unless its a family business and you know the younger people who will be taking it over) or a place in an area about to be renovated. Our original guy retired and gave his people to this other place and then the city reclaimed the shopping center or a city hall and they closed their doors forever lol. So avoid that situation and you might have a good experience.

My husband lost his too. We bought a silver one from James Avery for $55.

My husband lost his too. Took it off and left it in his car when he was golfing and it got sucked up by the vacuum later that day when he went to get his oil changed.

We got a new on on Amazon.

I've also heard good things about Costco's jewelry selection and prices.
