Where to buy a Big Green Egg?

My husband has a milestone birthday coming up, and I want to buy him a (large sized) Big Green Egg grill. I looked at them at TrueValue Hardware locally, but I'd love to find a reduced price.

I checked ebay, but no help. Anyway, since it weighs 140 pounds, I am fearful about the average person shipping it. I'm not opposed to buying from an online store.

Any advice? I have months, so I'm in no hurry.

Thanks in advance.

I only just started researching them myself. I plan to contact their authorized sellers (available on BGE's website) in my area for prices and to ask if they ever have any specials. Sometimes when the sellers have a "demo" day, they have specials.

Also, check for any BGE festivals happening in your area. The one out by me offers BGE's at a discounted price after they use them, just once, for the festival. We found out about it too late this year, but I have my name on their mailing list for this year's information.

If you have time, keep your eye on Craigslist. I see them there occasionally and the price is usually cheaper than paying retail.

We have a med. size Green Egg, and it's pretty big - we almost bought the large one, but glad we didn't. I really have not seen any sales in our area for them.

Yes, they are *very* heavy :crazy2: You also really need a stand for them. After pricing the stands, my dh made one with wood, storage underneath plus used heat tiles underneath and for the complete top. Has lots of support. He cut a round opening in top to rest the egg in, then has a storage shelf on the bottom - covers the whole thing with a large Green Egg cover.

Oh, the yummy meats dh has cooked on it ::yes::

Good luck finding one - so worth it! Had ours for 4 years. Smokes or bakes turkeys great!

Ours was purchased from a Fireplace & Patio Shop.

I just checked Amazon, they all look to have free standard shipping. Not sure its the best price though....

Wow, don't know how the price compares, but really surprised they would have free shipping. Those things weight a ton LOL.

They sure are great, though.

Good luck!

Any chance you could post a photo? I'd love to see the stand he made.

Sent you a PM :)

ETA: As an alternative to our picture, my dh just told me he used a plan off the web. Just google "plans for Green Egg Table". Ours looks like that. He paid approx. $125 - $150 for supplies, then his labor. Said it was not hard to build - he actually enjoyed it.
Was much cheaper than buying one, for sure. The stands they sale made us uneasy. These cookers are so heavy, and you sure wouldn't want one to be knocked over.

I will investigate festivals in our area. If it was already used once, it'd be put together -- I'm not sure it'd fit in our car. Of course, the box will probably be even bigger, so I must admit to a disconnect in my thinking.

I looked on Amazon, but I can't see the egg itself. Other brands, yes. Accessories -- excuse me, eggcessories, yes. Am I overlooking the real thing?

I've seen some pretty cool stands on the internet. That'll be his choice later. I'm sure he'll make something nice to go with his prize.

Thanks for the help.
