Someone posted this link on a "Where should I live?" thread and I thought it was pretty awesome.

www.findyourspot.com

Basically, you fill out a quick questionnaire about your "ideal" place to live, and it gives you cities that match your preferences. The places I matched up with are NOTHING like where I currently live. I thought it would be fun to share results and see if people fit with where they live or not.

So, based on my questionnaire, here's my top matches:

Greenville, SC
Hickory, NC
Tulsa, OK
Clarksville, TN
Chattanooga, TN
Gainesville, FL
Biloxi, MS
Tuscaloosa, AL
Deland, FL
Gainesville, GA
Hattiesburg, MS
Tacoma, WA

I don't think any of those places are even remotely similar to Iowa...

So how about YOU, where should you live?

Seward, AK
Ketchikan, AK
Littleton, NH
Jamestown, NY
Johnstown, PA
Saranac Lake, NY
Bremerton, WA
Glens Falls, NY
Traverse City, MI
Lewisburg, PA

Sigh. DH's will be all in AZ, GA, FL, etc.!

I can tell you where we can't live..

Oak Creek, Wisconsin..

I got a job x-fer there back in 2000 (from New York). Lets just say the slow, plodding mid-west way of living is NOT for our family..

Myrtle Beach, SC
Fairhope, AL (?)
Hilo, HI
Winterville, NJ
Atlantic Beach - Morehead City, NC
Deland, FL
Edenton, NC
Hickory, NC
Murray, KY
Gainesville, GA
Oxford, MS
Beaufort, SC

Weird list?

Here are my results. Texas seems to be the place but that is probably one place I would never go. :rotfl:

El Paso, Texas
Little Rock, Arkansas
Norfolk, Virginia
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Houston, Texas
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Fort Worth, Texas
San Antonio, Texas
Augusta, Georgia
Honolulu, Hawaii
Memphis, Tennessee
Nashville, Tennessee
Austin, Texas
Brownsville, Texas
Hampton, Virginia
Las Vegas, Nevada
Chesapeake-Virginia Beach, Virginia
Charleston, South Carolina
McAllen, Texas
Corpus Christi, Texas
Phoenix, Arizona
Charlotte, North Carolina
Long Beach, California

That was fun but I need to do it again. I like seasons but I guess my desire for warmth, beach, outweighed my want for snow! Saving this list! :)

Hartford, CT
Worcester, MA
. . .

it eventually gets to Andover, NH--that is pretty close to where I used to live in NH--which I loved (best of the many places in the US that I have loved). I think it did pretty well; seems to have gone largely for climate.

This is why we live in the hometown we grew up in, but both don't really like - we would never agree on a different solution.

My top 12:

Biloxi-Gulfport MS
Tallahassee FL
Lakeland-Winer Haven FL
Houston TX
Savannah GA
Mobile AL
Gainesville FL
Bradenton FL
Galveston TX
Hattiesburg MS
Corpus Christi TX
Dothan AL

His top 12:

Ogden UT
Salt Lake City UT
Cheyenne WY
Great Falls MN
Anchorage AL - he would LOVE to live in Alaska
Missoula MT
Provo-Orem UT
Spokane WA
Tacoma WA
Ft Collins CO
Dillon MT
Helena MT

We are completly in two very different regions of the country.

Obviously, I don't like the winter. I don't think I could ever live in Texas though.

Brownsville, TX
McAllen, TX
Miami, FL
Coral Springs, FL
Dothan, AL
Charleston, SC

Very interesting!

The places recommended for me are totally different than where I live now. BUT one of the top cities is the small town where my parents were born/grew up.

Norfolk, Virginia
Carlisle, PA
Hampton, Virginia
Harrisburg, PA
Lewiston, Maine
Winterville, NC
Chesapeake-Virginia Beach, Virginia
Roanoke, Virginia
Albany, NY
Charlotte, NC
Hickory, NC
Altoona, PA

I ended up with:

Norfolk, VA
Augusta, GA
El Paso, TX
Phoenix, AZ
Charlotte, NC
Chesapeake- Virginia Beach, VA
Tucson, AZ
Oklahoma City, OK
Charleston, SC
Houston, TX
Fort Worth, TX
Nashville, TN

Interesting... but I'll never be living in any of these places since I'm Canadian. Sure would love a warmer climate, though!

Mine are pretty different from most of yours:

Ventura, CA
Santa Barbara, CA
Medford, OR
Corvallis, OR
Reno, NV
Giathersburg, MD
Palo Alto, CA
Berkeley, CA
Eugene, OR
Hampton, VA
Greenville, NC
Rocky Mount-Stony Creek, NC

I guess I'm living on the wrong coast!

Charleston, SC
El Paso, TX
Norfolk, VA

Austin, TX
Memphis, TN
San Antonio, TX
West Palm Neach, FL

This is pretty neat, I've lived in TX but I wouldn't go back and I'm currently trying to find a job in Orlando now so I can move down there.

Ketchikan, Alaska
Lewiston, Maine
Mount Vernon, Washington
Seward, Alaska

Jamestown, New York
Abingdon, Virginia
Mount Airy, North Carolina
Helena, Montana

I think it looks like a pretty good list. I love New England, the north east and north west, and I actually lived in Bremerton Washington as a kid so that's kind of funny.
I'm surprised Utah didn't show up because of putting my religion.

I got an amusingly divergent set of places- mostly the deep south or the upper midwest. Interesting- most of them are places I would never even consider!

Fayetteville, AR
Little Rock, AR
Monroe, LA
Charleston, WV
Shreveport, LA
Champaign-Urbana, IL

Baton Rouge, LA
Kenosha, WI

The 2 bolded are closest to where I actually live.

Long Island, NY - Of course! I live on LI and LOVE it.
New York City, NY
Carlisle, PA
Harrisburg, PA

Nashua, NH
Albany, NY
Manhattan, NY (:confused3 It’s part of NYC )

Syracuse, NY
Rochester, NY
Erie, PA
Hampton, VA (:confused3)
Seattle, WA (:confused3 I picked North East)
Buffalo, NY
Pittsburg, PA
Bellingham, WA (:confused3)
Kent, WA (:confused3)
Ashville, NC (:confused3)
Tulsa, OK (ok, that's WAY out there)

Pennsylvania I can see. Both DH and I love the state (it's so beautiful), but wouldn't want to move there b/c it's too far away from family (grandparents).

Long Beach, California
San Diego, California
Honolulu, Hawaii
Las Vegas, Nevada
Little Rock, Arkansas
Augusta, Georgia
Orange County, California
Oakland, California
Norfolk, Virginia
El Paso, Texas
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Chesapeake-Virginia Beach, Virginia

Well, I certainly was born in the right place for me. My hometown is next to Long Beach, CA. I love Long Beach and that is where I went to college.

That was fun but I need to do it again. I like seasons but I guess my desire for warmth, beach, outweighed my want for snow! Saving this list! :)

Your Top Spots

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but there is a LOT of snow near Kona. It is about a two-hour drive up the volcano and it is beautiful there. Nice skiing, too.

That's was fun. Here's my list:

Phoenix, Arizona
Tucson, Arizona
Las Vegas, Nevada
El Paso, Texas
Augusta, Georgia
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Tampa, Florida
Orlando, Florida
Scottsdale, Arizona
Memphis, Tennessee
Dallas, Texas

West Palm Beach, Florida
Austin, Texas

Atlanta, Georgia
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Houston, Texas
Brownsville, Texas

No surprises for me, I like Indiana but the winters are terrible. Give me a warm climate any day. :goodvibes
