Where should we stay?

Our family of 7 (2 adults, 4 kids and a baby) is going to DL at the end of October and we have no idea where to stay. We want to be close to the parks, doesn´t HAVE to be within walking distance and should preferably accomodate all of us in one room/suite. Breakfast is definately a plus.

In 2006 we stayed at the Embassy Suites in Buena Vista and were very pleased with out stay. They seem to have been taken over by Radisson now and we are wondering whether we should try something new.

Should we even think about a pool at this time of year?

You might want to check out the Desert Inn and Suites. It is right on Harbor Blvd and next door to the crosswalk into the parks. They have a C-1 Family parlor suite for $119 a night. While their breakfast is just a continental breakfast, it is enough to get started with. They also have an indoor pool, although it is small. Parking is free.

We have stayed there twice in the last 6 months and have another trip planned for June. It has become our favorite place to stay, mainly because of location. Having a small child that may need to nap in the afternoons, it is a 5 minute walk to go back.

Hope you have a great trip.

I have heard great things about Residence Inn Maingate. They have a free, hot breakfast, and even will do your grocery shopping for you.

Thanks for the tip! I don´t want to be rude or too nosey, but I noticed your tags, do you have 11 children?

Hi Freyja,

Just wanted to welcome you to the DL side of the DIS :). In your investigations, besides Residence Inn Maingate (hot breakfast) & Desert Inn & Suites also try Best Western Raffles and Anaheim Maingate (formerly Radisson). They are close to Disneyland & have suites that hold 7 people.

Thanks! It´s good to be back. I posted a tiny bit here 2 years ago, before our Easter 2006 trip.

Yes, I do. 4 grown children of my own, 6 grown stepchildren and a 16 month old adopted daughter.

That´s wonderful. Lucky you! We´re expecting baby nr. 5 and people already think we´re crazy (well actually they even did when we had our fourth).:rotfl:

We have a party of 6 and I think I have in narrowed down to Residence Inn Maingate. I think reading the reviews and seeing the pictures on TripAdvisor sealed the deal for me.

We have stayed at the RI Maingate numerous times and what DM says is very true. There are 6 of us and we get the Penthouse suite with full kitchen and lots of space. Had a $139.00/night rate 3rd week in August last year. If we get there this year, the rate so far is $189.00/night for the 3rd week in August.
Very nice place to stay. ART stops there and under a 1/2 mile walk to the parks.

Jack

Thanks everyone! Great tips! I can´t wait to get into the "final" planning stages and start booking. Probably won´t do that until after a few months though.
