Where should we move??? Any cool cities???

I think I missed what your dh does for work? Do you work,or stay at home?

We live in the Indianapolis area and love it. We get to watch all the seasons change. Everyone is really nice. There are some nice areas, but also some questionable ones as with any town. I work for a really large company which has info and links on their site about the town:

fan of disney - DH and I actually DID live in Indy the first 3-4 years we were married and did like it a lot. My DF is from that area originally and DH is a racing fan so we enjoyed it. It remains an option to move back there...

Not too far from you, but we love Rockford, IL. We of course would rather live in Orlando, but for now DHs job keeps us here! houses are fairly inexpensive, but the people are super nice :)

You'd be 15 minutes from me! Have you been there for Gold Rush?

Thats how I first came to spend time in MN. We loved Gold Rush days, my M/L sells her antiques there now every year. We just love the area! Last time we drove over to the Cabela's for something different for a night. But it is more relaxed in general, and you have cheese curds! And you have Timberlodge steakhouse, we dont have them any where near us. The closest one is in Ill!!! I would move in a heartbeat when DD is older and off to college. So that gives me 13 years to visit yearly. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

I agree that Pittsburgh is a place to consider if you don't mind winter. We visited summer 2004 and really enjoyed it. Went to Kennywood and a water park and they have a good science museum with a great hands on area for kids (and adults) of all ages.

SC Minnie, how are the Charlotte winters? How many hours to the ocean?

Well if it were up to me, we would move to the Denver area. 300 days of sunshine, lots to do indoors and out, beautiful scenery. My DSis lives there and I have been working on DH but no luck yet :(

Housing in Denver is not exactly affordable though. I loved it there, but housing prices just got to be too much (although it is more affordable than Chicago).

So does he still have family around here? That would be nice for help with the kids also! We live in Greenwood, on the southwest side in the suburbs. Very nice area.

My DH has a Marketing Degree (oh to go back and change THAT one! :-) ) Right now he works for a local Fox station doing much more than the money pays. He's the Research Director (researches demographics/ratings/etc for the station)/Executive Sales Assistant/Web Administrator/Account Executive. He's getting paid utter crap right now, even for the midwest. He would enjoy a lot of different things in either the marketing/sales field and would love something connected somehow to either computer or software. Yes, school systems and culture would be a HUGE factor for us.
Vandalia, IL ....the city is looking for someone to work for the city developing its potential. The school system isn't great, but the housing is very reasonable. We bought a lake front home for 150,000. (3 bedroom 2 bath 2,000 ft living space)with a boat slip.
A bargain.
Its only about an hour drive from St Louis and all the possibilities for cultural events are endless. Only a town of around 7,000 people. Has a airport with sky diving, and what Illinois town of any size doesnt have a prison?:rotfl2: The lake needs dredged.

The Bluegrass region of KY has much of what you are looking for. IBM and Lexmark are larger employers here-possibly a job match. Housing is downright cheap compared to the rest of the country-the Lexington metro is getting a little more expensive, but the rapidly growing surrounding counties offer newly constructed homes with 4 bedrooms plus for 150K or less, with a commute of less than 30 minutes to DT lexington. We are ranked #21 in the Forbes liveable cities list-the only nick is job growth was not as rapid as cities above us on the list. We are in a rapidly growing area, but still have that down home southern feel.

We are within an hour of Cincinnati and Louisville-what can't be found here can be found within a reasonable drive. Mountains are only a short drive, Lake Cumberland in southern KY is less than 100 miles, with quite a bit of recreational offering. Our child's elementary school is in the 79th percentile on a nationwide scale (21% of the nation's schools rate higher)-not bad for a "hick" state. His teacher last year had just relocated from Carbondale, IL due to lack of jobs there. We moved here from Ohio 2 years ago, our neighbors moved from Michigan 8 years ago, other neighbors from New York 5 years ago for a job at Lexmark.

Good luck in your job and relocation search!!!

Thanks for all of the suggestions...I'm glad Indy came up, I love it there. :) Anyone here from Richmond, VA? Wondering what it's like there.

Hey, Brolzy!! Welcome aboard! I'm the one from Rochester, Mn. I had to post and reiterate that Rochester is a really nice area. :teeth:

Thanks!

We've been to Rochester, spent a long weekend there in '04, we liked it. Ended up going up to Minneapolis, on a day trip that weekend, and that's not a bad ride. I'll look up there. :)

I kept telling my DH he couldn't stay away forever!!!

Went to WDW on our honeymoon and been converting him ever since! :thumbsup2

DOnt know if someone posted this or not but try http://www.findyourspot.com/

you take a quiz and it shows you areas that match your wants.

Im in love with Boise for many of the reasons you list. Meridian Schools are fantastic, its one of the most family friendly places Ive ever lived ( parks everywhere!) cost of living is relatively low, we have 4 season though none of them are harsh. Winters are mild but summers a bit warmer than Id like.
Job rate is good here.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Gotta put my voice in for MN. I love it here. I am in the St. Paul burbs, but love Mankato, Rochester, Duluth (oooooh...so pretty!), everywhere. Don't think you can go wrong. And the schools are great. All 4 seasons. Nice people. Small town, yet metropolitan. GOod luck in your decision!

That findyourspot site was cool....thanks for sharing! It came up with places that both tommygirl79 and I have lived...and hadn't thought about. very cool.
