Where should we go?

My husband and I are planning another trip to Disney in September 2008.
I am 50 and DH is 45. We will not be bringing the kids.

We spent our 50th Anniv. at the Beach Club. I watched Great Hotels on the Travel Channel and thought that was the best place for us. I was so disappointed with the room and service. Rooms seemed smaller than Dixie Landings and mousekeeping was horrible. (mold in the shower, holes in the bathroom, garbage never emptied, etc)

If you were going on a romantic trip with your hubby, which resort would you go to and why?

I am leaning towards the Poly but I just don't want to be disappointed again.

Thanks for your help

Cathy

I am partial to the Wilderness Lodge. It is very romantic and cozy. The rooms are bigger than at Riverside (Dixie Landings) but smaller than the Beach Club.

I just have to ask this...you are 50? And you've already celebrated your 50th anniversary? Is that a typo? Unless you got married as an infant, I don't see how this happened! ;) Or I am just not reading your post right.

Anyway, I vote for the Wilderness Lodge.

I too am partial to the WL. To me it is the more romantic than the Poly but again that is subjective. I enjoy walking over to the campgrounds on the nature trail and stting by the fireplace, sipping my hot cocoa is quite relaxing after a long day in the parks. I can't explain the warmth and coziness I feel the second I walk into the lobby or sit by the fireplace - to me it really is my second home. The boat ride to the MK is relaxing and it nice to see the resort from the lake perspective. WL gets my vote.

Poly! Always my #1 choice, exotic and tropical, very large rooms
AKL Quiet and remote, exotic
WL breathtakingly beautiful (but, hey, you've probably got some access to the rustic scenery upstate)
CR, MK view for an awesome view and HUGE rooms (by Disney standards), but not what one would consider "romantic" in the classic sense. Very metropolitan chic.

Happy romancing!

May I suggest renting DVC points for a one bedroom villa at VWL right next door to WL. You will get a large two room villa with a full bedroom and a king size bed. A full bath with a jacuzzi tub ;) and a walk-in shower. A kitchen, nice size living room and balconies off the bedroom and living room. You could do this at any of the DVC resorts but I like the VWL even though my home resort is BWV. I have rented out points in the past and have been told it was cheaper to rent points then to pay cash for another deluxe resort room.

With the risk of offending some, I want to say that Disney's Deluxe hotels are not of the same caliber of other deluxe destinations. You are paying for the location and the experience of Disney, not necessarily the amenities of a 5 star resort hotel. If this is your expectation, you will be disappointed wherever you stay.
I love Disney and I love the Deluxe hotel, but for a resort experience we vacation elsewhere.
That said, I love the atmosphere of the Poly. That would be my recommendation.

I'd go with the POLY!

My first and still my favorite WDW Resort.

Good Luck!

Thanks all for your input.
and yes I made a mistake it was our 20th anniversary not 50th :lmao:

So it looks like Wilderness Lodge or Poly as the choices. I will start doing some research on this board to try to find what will be best for us.

Thanks again for your help

Cathy

My DH and I stayed at BWI last year and we were disappointed for the same reasons you were disappointed with BC. We stayed at Poly the year before and LOVED IT!! We will definitely go back. That gets my vote for a romantic spot at WDW!

The rooms at the Wilderness Lodge are considerably smaller than those at the Grand Floridian. But the service is better.

The rooms at the Poly are quite spacious, especially in the newer buildings. The service is great, IMO. I think the Poly is WONDERFUL.

Congrats on the anniversary... We are going for our 20th anniversay in January, and staying at Animal Kingdom Villas.

I'm going on a romantic, 25th anniversary trip in Feb. 2008 with my husband...and our 12-year old. :) Oh, and I'm 45, and he is 46.

We're staying for 4 nights at the Wilderness Lodge, and 4 nights at the Swan or Dolphin. We love the theming of the Lodge, but are huge Epcot fans. So a split stay will give us the best of both, at least we hope so!

We had a romantic trip staying at the BCV for our 25th wedding anniversary last June - with our 13 yr old son. He's been part of our celebrations since he was born. Wouldn't seem right without him.

We're taking ours too... all three of them. I would just miss them if we didn't.
