We're rather picky eaters, so we need to make sure that the chefs will leave off sauces and such.

And we are going to Le Cellier on our Second Epcot Day, so don't suggest that. :goodvibes

Where should we go?

Garden Grill is pretty plain to start with, though trying to get something special might be more troublesome or time-consuming there, since it isn't a regular "order-off-the-menu" place, and so its kitchen is structured more like a banquet hall than a restaurant. Biergarten is actually a banquet hall, so again getting something special is a little troublesome. At Teppenyaki, you can talk directly to the person creating your food, while he's (I've never seen any women) doing it, so that's where you'll have the most direct control. Spoodles is always very accommodating, of any dietary requests we've had (and we've had a whole bunch of different ones over the years), but the essential nature of that cuisine is that it is special because of the sauces, so why go there if you're not going to enjoy that? Alfredo's has received such consistently poor reviews over the years that it remains the only Epcot restaurant we've never been to. Beaches and Cream is an ice cream shop that serves burgers, and it never impressed me.

So my suggestion wouldn't be any of those, but rather Rose and Crown, Chefs de France and Coral Reef. Rose and Crown is remarkably good, very accommodating, and features a cuisine that still works well, sauce-free. Chefs de France and Coral Reef are also great choices: Although both rely heavily on sauces, at both restaurants I'd trust that a sauce-free dish can be made well-enough to be worth the trip.

I agree with Bicker-most places will de-sauce (un sauce) most any food and I'd say Coral Reef would be the place to go!

I voted for garden grill because the food is pretty plain, althhough good I hear.

Bicker, last year we had a female chef at Teppanyaki. Apparently it's pretty unusual according to her.

Great to hear... the times they are a-changin' in Japan!

I voted for other and suggest Rose and Crown.

My favorite on the list is Spoodles and I would normally vote for that. But because you are going to leave off sauces, etc., I didn't. The flavors there are blended so perfectly .. the chefs really know what they are doing .. it would be a shame to eat the food plain.

Oh dear, I guess we are really really picky in this family. :sad2:

Rose & Crown sounds disgusting, Chef's De France is not any better, Garden Grill is too exotic....Coral Reef is leading, but even that is a bit odd.
What is Penne Riccotta Gratin? :confused3

Edit: Alfredo's looks good, but what does Rosemary taste like? :guilty:

If Garden Grill is too exotic, then I fear you'll find Alfredo's doubly-so. There really isn't anything at Epcot that is less exotic than Garden Grill. Sorry.

Come on, you must be kidding me!

How come Epcot doesn't have nice normal food like the food at Crystal Palace or Whispering Canyon, or 50s Primetime?

Whispering Canyon is more "exotic" than Garden Grill. I think, perhaps, that you might be mistaking what is served at Garden Grill: From what I remember, fried catfish and flank steak. Sides are scalloped potatoes and green beans. Pretty darned basic, on par with 50s Prime Time Cafe and Crystal Palace.

I voted for "other" and would recommend the Rose & Crown. As one picky eater to another, I have never been disappointed here. Anything I don't want on things, I have found most of the places I've dined at at WDW have been very accomodating.

But everything has brown sugar rub or apple raisin chutney or tillamook cheese. :confused3

Brown sugar rub just means they put some sugar on the outside of the pork loin. That doesn't affect anything other than making the edge of the slices sweeter. The chutney you can just ignore. And Tillamook cheese is plain cheese -- high quality, but plain. Take my word for it; There is no restaurant at Epoct that is plainer than Garden Grill, and Garden Grill is among the plainest restaurants at all of WDW.
