So I arrive on Jan 25, just in time for dinner, at POR. Any suggestions for where I should go for my first Disney World meal? I've never been, so I am open to your expert ideas!

With that budget you are pretty limited to quick service. I'd hop on the boat to Disney Springs and find something there. I can't recommend anything there since we don't "do" disney springs but there are a lot of options there.

I would take the boat to Disney springs. My favorite restaurant there is Raglan Road. They have live Irish music and dancers (schedule varies based on the day of the week.) The food is good too, my favorite is the "Kevin's Heavenly Ham."

If you're at POR, you're close to Disney Springs so I'd probably eat there and look around DS after the meal. My favorite in that area is Raglan Road, but there are many good choices, both TS or QS.

With opinions on dining at WDW being so subjective you might be better off looking at menus on your own and then asking for some advice.

Even $$$ would be fine. I'm pretty open to anything (except those super expensive places lol).

Thank you both! It looks like DS is where I should focus for day one :)

Check out the menu at Boatwrights at Port Orleans (you'll probably need to make a reservation). If you haven't already, check out the menus of places you'll want to eat and see if there are any TS times available.

For QS meals at resorts, POFQ has awesome beignets and it's right next door. You could also try out one of the monorail resorts' quick service locations. The DisUnplugged guys seem to love Captain Cook's at the Poly, and they positively reviewed Gasparilla's at Grand Floridian.

Also, you can take a boat to Disney Springs from your resort!

I also highly recommend looking through the options at DS!

I second the PP who suggested Raglan Road- it's one of my favorites at WDW. Homecomin'(TS) is also delectable, and so is D-Luxe Burger(QS). DS also has plenty of more snack type stands and something fun to do is instead of a standard full meal, spend time wandering DS and getting something to nibble on from the different places like the Daily Poutine, Aristocrepes, or B.B. Wolf's Sausage Co. But honestly, it's hard to go wrong at DS. Except for Planet Observatory, I do not recommend that.

In the past we have done the HDDR on our arrival night. It takes a little bit of travel time to get to, but sooo worth it. And they have a later seating. It's a great way to kick off a trip!

D-Luxe Burger is great! My first-night go to at Disney Springs is the ever wonderful Earl of Sandwich.

Do you drink at all? If so I'd recommend going to Jock Lindsey's and having some appetizers and drinks also :)

I second Jock Lindsay's. We had appetizers there and they are huge. The shrimp BLT flatbread was amazing and we also had french dip sliders which were great. I also really like the Indiana Jones theme. You didn't indicate if you were travelling alone or with a party. Raglan Road is fun and a little rowdy. I find it a little too much on my arrival day. We tried Morimoto Asia and the restaurant is just plain stunning. The food was really good too.

I agree that since you're not going to a park that day, you could hop on a boat from POR to Disney Springs. There's tons of options there...you can check out the menus online in advance so you can get an idea of what to get. http://allears.net/dining/menu usually has pretty good listings.

I would go to D-Luxe Burger in Disney Springs. I would also recommend you avoid Boatwrights, it was pretty terrible when we went in August.
