My original thought was to stay at the value resorts b/c they are cheapest. But then I thought the POFQ is newly renovated, and I hear that it is almost as nice as some older rooms at deluxe properties. Also when I was a kid, I stayed at the Poly and loved it. From what i understand sometimes its possible to get an "upsell" rate(e.g. "you really want to stay at the Poly, but go to book POFQ and they can upgrade you"). I guess I could try that at either level.

One non resort question:Is the dining plan worth it?

Info: Planning on travel end of june for a 6-8 nite vacation between school years. Price is somewhat of an issue. i really don't want my entire vacation costing more than 2500.
personal info: I am going by myself is a 25 yr old male. Its funny, at first I wanted to go to Europe but it was way too much (airfar was insane and hotel was just as much as Disney) and then i thought, where else can I go to have a good time.

Thanks

You can't really count on an upsell or upgrade of any kind. They are fewer & farther between than you might think. Upgrade a room catagory, maybe, but to a whole new level of resort is rare.

If you want to keep costs down, but still have alot of the Deluxe amenities, I would recommend Coronado Springs. I consider it a "Deluxe Lite", kind of like Wilderness Lodge as far as amenities.... I haven't stayed at POFQ, but have visited it & it looks very nice. I would think a moderate would make for a very nice stay for you, especially if you will be out touring the Parks & doing PI & stuff.... We stayed at the Poly Concierge & Coronado once in the same trip. We liked CSR better than the Poly on the whole (although we did like the transpo & the conc. at Poly) Especially when we looked at the difference in cost.

I think you have to work it out and see if the meal plan will be right for you. I have heard people saying that restaurants that they wanted to go to were not on the plan.
My husband and I looked at it and were excited at first and then realized it would not be worth it for us.
I think it depends on what you like.

As for Resorts... I would look up as much as I could on each of the resorts you are thinking about and then make a choice.
Don't expect to get upgraded to another resort though.
We got upgraded to a laggon view once when we booked standard but not to another resort.

Welcome to the DIS, Met19!

I highly reocommend the POFQ. The rooms were just renovated a year ago, so they should still have that new feel to them. The grounds at the POFQ are beautiful, and the atmosphere is bright and cheerful. I've stayed at the POFQ four times now, and it's my favorite resort anywhere!

As for the dining option, I don't have an answer, but to me, they seem like a good deal. You may want to ask that question on the restaurant board.

Have fun planning!

We tried POFQ a few months ago and as it was our first time at a mod we were pleasantly surprised. We usually only stay at the deluxe level mainly because we want a bigger room, bigger beds, interior hallways, valet parking and restaurants. We thought the POFQ was charming, the room was decorated nicely, and as another poster said it is newly renovated and still has that "new" feeling to the rooms. We would recommend it. I wouldn't say it was comparable to the Poly, but it isn't fair to compare mods against deluxes.

As for the chances of getting an "upsell" to another category of resort, well good luck. I personally think your chances are very slim for this to occur. The only times I have read about this happening was when POFQ was being renovated and people who had booked there were being placed in PO-R because the renovations were taking longer than Disney expected. Then if PO-R was booked that night, Disney was trying to get you a room in CBR or Coronado Springs. IF there was nothing available, then you were offered a room at the next level.

Oh, and welcome to the DIS! :flower1:

Planning on staying at CSR this June only because I like to try a new hotel for each visit and this is the only moderate we have not stayed at. As far as a moderate goes POFQ is our favorite so far. We love the size and the theming inside and out. Will let you all know what we think about CSR after our trip. Heard that the other advantage of CSR is that the foodcourt wins hands down compared to all the rest.

Question, does POFQ have a foodcourt on site or do you have to go all the way to POR? Do they have a sit down?

POFQ is our favorite moderate hotel. It is really nice. And since they renovated it, it is even better. The rooms are nice, new & clean. I love the whole look & feel of the POFQ.

As far as upgrading into a completely different hotel, well I would not count on it. It is extremely rare & hardly ever happens. You may get a better view then you book or something like that, but you wont be upgraded to a deluxe.

WE used to be a deluxe only family, now we pretty much stay at only value resorts as we feel the money saved is more important right now. We would much rather spend the ,oney on suvies or meals.

How much time do you plan on spending at the resort?

Is a sliding board at the pool important to you? side noteon pools: kids at every price level have accidents in them

Do you like/need/want larger room?

Is having a sit-down restaurant on-site important?

Everyone has a different idea of what is best. Only you can decide on what you are really looking ofr from the resort.
