Can you guys tell me wether or not this is a good deal on a Rebel XT? Canon Digital Rebel I have finally been told by DH that I can buy my "dream" camera, but now that I can get it I have no idea where to start. I used to have the Canon Rebel G (non-digital), and then started using a little fuji finepix (digital) because I was getting really tired of having film developed. If anyone has any advice or suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I just got a rebel xt ( old one was rebel eos 2000) and i love it

if you buy through an authorized canon dealer before 7/15 there is a $100 rebate...i bought via www.buydig.com and it was a good price then, 674 out the door plus i get $100 back from rebate...i got the black body only..if your film camera was an eos rebel..the lens will fit although you might need to get upgrades ( my little sigma kit lens did and works great now...it cost $10 for upgrade, 4 for shipping, if your lens are sigma, the sigma site had details) and you would also save on filters etc...my old tripod and cable remote worked too. ( although i want one of those gorillapods...very cool imo)
if you go to
www.pricegrabber.com

it lists the sites and prices or to for the body only

http://shop.resellerratings.com/PD-23761547/SB-6

i also have used Beach with good results

do you know anything about this seller? that would determine it for me

the lens they are offering with the kit are sold elsewhere for $80 and $120 ish(forget the exact amount)
so that would bring it up to 870 from beach or someplace. i think you could get the card for around 40 on ecost or newegg( i got a 2 gb for about that after a rebate...if there are still rebates, haven't
looked for a while) the other stuff is kind of not really valuable imo cause you don't know if it's cheapo stuff that you would even use, that's where knowing the seller would come in handy. if he's not reputable would he change the card or something to something cheaper??. the card reader i got on ecost was still there last i looked and was free after a rebate.
only thing is you might rather have one lens rather than the 2, i had about that length with my old film lens( not taking the crop into account) and found it a pain to have to change so much..the 28-80 isn't bad, but i think if i didn't' already have lenses i could use I'd go with an 18-125( around $250 now) for something a little more all purpose.

I just bought my XT three weeks ago from beach camera for 744 with free shipping.

Beach and buydig are two branches of the same tree -- owned and operated, I believe, by the same company.

Their prices are very similar -- maybe a dollar or two difference -- and so is their stock. I've ordered from buydig and would happily do so again. I was very satisfied with the quality and the price.

And yes: both offer free shipping and no tax. Which makes them an even better value!

and of course, the obligatory addition from me:

Just buy the body-only and get Sigma 18-125 lens instead.

Dana,
I watched ebay for a while trying to find a 'deal' on a Rebel XT, but seems most of the sellers were packaging their cameras with junk I simply didn't want or need. I ended up going to B&H for Rebel XT. It was the best price at the time and they have an excellent reputation. :)
Happy Shopping!

I would recommend B&H video. Bought all my professional gear there without a problem. If it is in stock (on the website) and you order before 10am EST, chances are it will ship the same day.

i'll give B&H photo another nod. their service is top notch, and their prices are seldom beat. i order from them and with shipping and insurance to oz, it's still cheaper and the items generally get here very quickly. unlike Kelly's experience with Gary Fong, B&H properly charge and ship in a timely fashion and notify you of what's going on.
