Okay, this is going to make me nuts. That is if I'm not there already! I need some advice from all of you wonderful experts out here.

I originally bought 240 points at VWL but have been thinking about adding on ever since I booked our first trip and used 2 full years worth of points and borrowed some from the third year. I thought I would just do this occasionally ( we are taking the extended family and booked 4 rooms for 5 days and 3 rooms for an additional 5 days), but the more I read here the more I realize I will probably take people with me every time I go. Not 4 rooms worth, but I'm sure I'll always need 2 and often three.

So, first, should I do it now or wait until next year?

Secondly, should I add on at VWL like I already have, which of course will impact the first question, or should I wait and add on at BCV?

I know I would enjoy either area just as well. I like the Boardwalk area, but think I would prefer the Beach Club over it. No, I'm not sure why I think this either, maybe a fear of to much noise?

How does the transferring work? Can you only do that between seperate members or if I have points at VWL and BCV can I transfer between the 2 resorts?

Thanks in advance for all of your responses!

As they say, buy where you want to stay! BCV is still a ways out. Right now there are some real bargains in the resale market. OKW and BWV are available there.

Before you decide whether to add on at VWL now or wait for BVC, be sure you understand the booking windows and how having points at different resorts will impact your vacation planning.

Obviously, if you add on at VWL you will be able to use all of your points at the 11 month window to make a reservation at VWL. You already understand how banking and borrowing work with your VWL contract.

If you add on at BCV (or any DVC resort besides VWL), you will not be able to use your BCV (non-VWL) points to make a reservation at VWL until the 7 month window. You will not be able to use your VWL points to make a reservation at BCV until the 7 month window either.

With creative use of banking and borrowing, you can have up to three year's worth of points to use to book reservations at the 11 month window. Let's say you buy 60 points at BCV. You bank the first year's points, borrow the third year's points and vacation in the second year. You would be able to use up to 180 points for your vacation at BCV and you would be able to book it at the 11 month window. You could do this every third year from then on. BUT if you ever wanted to "spend" more than 180 points at BCV, you would have to use points from your VWL contract. You can use banked, borrowed or current year points from your VWL contract at BCV, but you couldn't make the reservation using them until the 7 month window. There may or may not be availability for the time you want to visit.

Of course, the opposite applies if you want to use BCV points at VWL.

Having points at more than one resort can be confusing at first. Feel free to ask more questions if you need more information.

So about the transferring, is it just between members or different contracts? Can I not transfer to the BCV account from WLV if it is the same contract?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Generally, when people talk about transferring points, they mean between members. But even then, the transferred points retain the use year and home resort of the originating account/contract. (So you can't use a transfer to circumvent the reservation window rules). BTW, you can only transfer points once per year. That's EITHER out of, OR into, not both. YCK! I'm starting to sound like a lawyer. Must be watching too many episodes of Law & Order. :D

I'm getting the feeling that I'm not quite understanding your question. Might help if you tell us what you're trying to do. Why would you want to transfer points from a BCV contract to the VWL contract?

Thanks CarolMN you answered it. I didn't know if I could transfer points from WL points to BC points. Not sure this is making a whole lot of sense to me either. Just didn't know how the transferring thing worked. So to be able to alternate trips l'd have to have enough points specifically from the place I want to stay at to use the 11 month window.

It is easy to watch to much Law & ORder these days since they have 3 different versions on now.

I would also consider if I want to stay somewhere every third year by banking and borrowing the new contract points at a different home resort. Or if it just need the additional points to accomodate your room or party size at your existing (VWL) home resort. Just something to consider.

When you say you got 4 rooms, were you using studios, 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms etc? We have enjoyed inviting guests and prefer on set of guests per trip. That way a 2-3 bedroom is great for everyone to stay together and still have your own bedroom. You can always reserve at your 11 month window and switch to a different resort at the 7 month window if possible. Because of that feature, I would add on at your current resort.

We got a 2 bed and 3 studios. Don't really want to all stay together. Think everyone will need some privacy. But it is all my family. Mom will need quiet time way before the teenagers do, my neice and her husband will need their own room. So that's why we split everybody up. The trips when it is just my children with us we will probably share a room but when there are others with us I don't think we would be as comfortable.

I think you are right though that I need to add on at VWL to have the points all in one place that way we don't have to pack up and move midway through the trip just in case one of them couldn't be switched at thee 7 month mark. I don't think that would be a pretty site moving that many people.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Guess I need to call my guide now. Won't my husband be thrilled!
