I really enjoy orlando tourist traps.

From gatorland to oldtown to ma and pop gift shops.

What is your worst or best tourist trap.

Best - Forever Florida, out in the south of St Cloud (www.foreverflorida.com). Lovely place.

Worst - Gatorland Zoo (as opposed to the main Gatlorland park) until it closed last year. Now, probably Shell World on 192.

Hey Mike...

I know you're just referring to the Orlando area, but...the worst has to be South of the Border if you're taking a road trip to Florida. What a dump and a half! Not too familiar with the Orlando area, other than Disney.

That's so funny that you knew about that place. I've never been because the place just has tourist trap written all over it. You have to love the hundreds of signs off the freeway before you get there.

gumdrop, your post made me lol because every year on our drive from Ny to Fla my husband makes us stop there. He just has to get his foot long hot dog, even if it's 4am. All the while everyone in the car is screaming no not again!! He just loves this place. Stops on the way home too.

I fall off my seat laughing whenever I see South of the Border come up. They advertise this thing starting in Virginia. You feel fairly sure you're coming upon a great Oasis. When you finally get there, you find a cross between Tijuana and the Jersey Shore. Has anyone ever entered the Silver Slipper casino? We made a drive through SOB one time, and got out of dodge. We're wondering if the casino has any merit.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER: What a flashback, when I was a kid, we would drive from New York to Florida and always stopped there but back in the 70's it was nice from what I remember.

So funny! We used to stay at SOB every trip when I was a teenager because we were camping and the big pull-through sites were great for a one night stay! Mom & Dad wouldn't let us buy anything in those gift shops though! Actually stayed as an adult in a room there on the way home one trip, but boy did that room smell funny! Took me hours the next day to get my head clear!

Like the rest of the posters, as a kid we used to stop there every trip. Driving from NY back then it was a must. BUT, years ago it was nice & clean. Now driving from NJ, we just pass it by and don't even acknowledge it. We did stop once a few years ago and my teenage girls were so MAD about it(they say its a filthy place) that as soon as we stopped, we left again. The one good thing about it is that when we start seeing the many, many signs about SOB we know that we're getting closer to disney.
