We scheduled the Family Magic Tour for our trip in October/November 2004. We had a very busy 2 week trip scheduled with many special extras planned. We stayed at OKW for the first 4 days then took the three day
DCL trip. We returned to BCV for 4 days, then finished off with BWV. During this trip we also scheduled an event at Epcot through "Gifts of a Lifetime" and I also suprised my 10 year old daughter with the Aqua Seas tour.
Our group consisted of DW, DD Kelsey (10), DD Jenna (5), myself, and my MIL (age unknown - would require a carbon dating analysis)
It was actually a very interesting start to the day. I was certain that the MK opened at 8 am that day and we were up early to be there when the gates opened. It is real rare for us to get up early during our vacations. At 7:20 am we were on the bus headed toward the MK when the driver anounced that the park opened at 9 am. Oh great we thought, 1 hour of waiting around. Mister "plan every minute", travel with his laptop, carry his handheld computer, program key times and dates into his phone had made a mistake.
While standing around the entrance we found out that there was a separate line for people with breakfast reservations and they could enter at 8 am. Of course CRT would be impossible, but the Crystal Palace wasn't totally booked. We made the reservation and by 8:15 we were seated for breakfast. Very good food and character interaction. We walked out of CP at 9 am which meant the park was now open and we were already part of the way in! We headed straight for Mickey's Philharmagic and didn't have to wait at all.
A few minutes before 10 we headed over to City Hall for the FMT. While waiting they provided us with soft drinks and bottled water. There was a total of about 18 people on our tour. I had sold this tour to my children as simply a tour of MK, which I am sure they thought would be very dull.
If you are familiar with the premise of the tour, you know that they inform everyone that the tour needs to be cancelled since a villian has put a curse on the MK (I don't remember the exact details). The CM then has a brainstorm and asks if the tour members (specifically the kids) want to come along with her to find a way to break the curse. Of course everyone wants to. She starts by reading from a book, which provides clues - it is kind of like a scavenger hunt. Along the way the group has to do some real goofy stuff like hop or act like a monkey. You get lots of stares from other guests!
At the end we were directed into a private, wooded area near the castle. Peter Pan appeared (he was really good) performed a bit of magic, and broke the spell. We were also able to take pictures with the girls and Peter Pan. If I remember correctly the kids each received a certificate. PP then suggested we all come along for a ride on IASW. He took us in through the exit and we got right onto the ride. He sat up front with the kids and made comments the entire time. The kids loved it.
Overall we enjoyed this event but would like to add several comments. Our tour guide did a pretty good job, but lacked a little energy. My girls are not real outgoing, and didn't seem to "get into it" like some of the other kids. Plus, my youngest was an absolute bear at several times during the event and didn't want to be involved. She is just too shy.
We personally will not repeat the tour, but I would suggest it to others.
