Can someone please tell me where the official policy that fries can be substituted as a side for the carrot sticks/grapes in the kids meals is printed? ( if that is the official policy) I would like to print it out and take it with me in case I need written confirmation:rolleyes1 TIA

Good question. I just reread the 2007 brochure & there is no mention of substitutions. Maybe it is printed on the children's menus:confused3

Go to the first sticky on the Disney Dining page, I think it is called "New kids menu scans." You can see some of the menus that have soft drinks and french fries available upon request. Not all of the menus state this, though. HTH!

Let's hope Disney receives enough complaints about new kid's menus ,that they make changes! Again I have no problem offering Healthy choices but that's what it should be a choice!!

Do you have a Disney Visa card? I just noticed that statement in the info I received last week about the rewards program.

I emailed through the website and part of the response was:

Disney is moving in a positive new direction by providing a healthier
range of food choices for parents and kids. Since families are looking
for better nutritional options, the new policy calls for products that
meet specific food guidelines. These guidelines are based on USDA
recommendations and which we developed with the help of two top child
health experts.

We have introduced new kid's menus that automatically come with
healthier sides and drinks (although parents and kids can still get
fries and a soda
). We hope to eliminate all added trans fats from the
meals we serve at the U.S. Parks by the end of next year and for all
Disney food products sold or licensed in the U.S. by the end of 2008.

When we were there Jan 31 to Feb 5, it was in VERY fine print that fries and/or soda available upon request. At TS, it was usually in the middle of the kids menu somewhere. At CS, it was usually on the sign that was sitting on the counter that showed the choices. The carrots, grapes, milk, juice, etc were prominent, and there was fine print at the bottom.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Do you mean confirmation with a CM or the kids ?

" See junior - It's an official rule - if you don't eat your carrots / grapes security will kick us all out before we see Mickey"

I might be able to use that !!

when I was at the World in Oct/06, all kids menus had a choice. You could get anything from healthy to deep fried.

My personal opinion is the hysteria about the change in kids menus needs to be tempered....... Personally, as I was at the World for 16 days, I wanted to ensure my son could get more than french fries and chicken fingers everyday. We ordered those items (probably more than we should of, but hey, we're on vacation). But, we also had the choice to get healthy food.

I'm with you. I'd much my son eat the healthy stuff, but like you say, he is on vacation too. Also, I'd like to see more choices. He doesn't care for carrot sticks. I did notice that one our last trip (only 5 nights) he started out in complete rebellion about the grapes (I'd order his meals with grapes and fries at the places you get 2 picks). Now, keep in mind that he snacks on grapes constantly at home! But by the end of the trip, he was eating them. I think so much junk food, they start craving the good stuff.

Now they are going to make us Adults eat healthy!!!!Bye Bye DDP!!!

Actually, this isn't a Dining Plan issue, englishrose47. It affects Dining Plan and cash customers the same.

However, the elimination of trans-fats shouldn't have an appreciable impact on what food choices are available. Just about everything that can be made with oils containing trans-fats can be made with trans-fat free oils. It will just be an enhancement to the offering for those many guests concerned about the link between trans-fats and horrible diseases and medical conditions (and as an enhancement to the offering, therefore reflected perhaps by a higher price), but it shouldn't affect the actual offerings themselves.

Oh I thought they were going to make me eat coucous or stuff like that! The ddp would not be for me if that was the case they'd need to pay me to eat stuff like that that's what I meant/. Lord knows what I'd eat I'm coming at this healthy nutrition kick with a lot of negative experienceas in my fiels (M.R) they are pushing it and I see the very worst side of these Healthy nutrition people. Seems to me the words CHOICE apply only to them !!

These are from the table service meals, I'd guess. Posters have reported varying responses to requests for substitutions at counter service.

I am happy with the healthy options as sides. My ds doesn't like fries so it works out better for us. I just wishes they would add more options like watermelon. We eat buffet a lot so ds can eat an unlimited amounts of watermelon!! :)
