Where is Christmas Red?

I have been trying to find a nice red sweater for work. There is no red in any of the stores this year. Has anyone else noticed this? I think the fact that all the major department stores are owned by the same few companies does not help.

I've noticed this as well...the DW and I went on a mission the other day searching for xmas sweaters because we have an "ugly Christmas sweater" party to attend next weekend. Not only have we been unable to find Christmas sweaters but like you we have been unable to find Xmas red or green sweaters. We have resorted to making our own "ugly sweaters" but we had to settle for white sweaters as our base because we were unable to find the appropriate red or green.

If I had to guess, I would say that the economy has something to do with it. I think that most retailers don't want to get stuck with seasonal product that they cannot sell so they pick and choose which products to carry and sweaters ended up getting chopped. Just a guess though :)

I may just buy a white cotton sweater and dye it. I think you may be right about the ecomony effecting things. It seems the stores are filled with grey, black and beige all nice depressing colors. Bright and cheerful is out this year.

The stores started the Christmas season so early this year, I have to wonder if they sold out before Halloween. And I am not kidding. The first "Black Friday" Christmas sale here was the Friday BEFORE Halloween.

Go to a second hand store. You would be surprised what you can find for almost nothing. AND the ugly sweater you can find some of those too I guarantee it.

Kohl's has a bunch of sweaters in red.

not an ugly sweater but... Eddie bauer has a great red cardigan this season. Just love that color, slightly darker and rich looking.

Christopher & Banks has some really cute red sweaters and cardigans. They also have green. They won't qualify for the ugly Christmas sweater party though.

I see a lot of them at JCPenny's and Macy's.

Good luck!

I had a terrible time today trying to find a plain, long sleeved cotton top in red or green for DD. She has to wear it Tuesday for her school concert (the e-mail came home Thursday)

Children's Place and Bonnie Togs both had lots of purple and black and turquoise and anything red or green was splattered with graphics and glittery stuff. I finally found something plain red in her size after about an hour and a half.

I found what I consider to be a true red sweater at WalMart. It's by White Stag and is very soft - almost has a cashmere feel ... and only $7!

Not so sure if it is economy or just fashion/design trends. I've been watching several of the holiday decorating shows on HGTV and this years trend is holiday decor sans traditional red/green.

Thrift stores might be the trick to finding what you are seeking

There is a store called Raggstock at the Mall of America. They have rack after rack of Christmas Sweaters, sweatshirts, vests, you name it. These were all really over the top and cheesy. We had a riot looking through them and laughing. When we were there so many people were browsing through them and laughing, most of them looking for "ugly Christmas sweater" parties, etc.
We were KIND OF wishing we had a reason to join in. I realize OP is probably not going to be near MOA, just a funny Christmasy story. I think there is less Christmasy jewelry, etc too. I think Halloween is now marketed more than some of the other holidays! Seems like there was more seasonal stuff out for that the past few years.
