A little boy I watch is going to Disney in a few weeks (we are going in May) and he told me his mom told him about a place where it rains inside and they give you umbrellas. Any idea what he's talking about?? I'm thinking maybe something in Epcot???

I believe I remember getting sprayed in the Coca-Cola thing and in the Little Mermaid show at MGM but not anything where they'd give you an umbrella.

Any ideas??

My best guess is Rain forest cafe (there are 2 of them, one at DTD, one at AK park).

We have one near us and I am not the impressed with it, but it can be fun.

There is nowhere I can recall that gives you umbrellas. Perhaps she is thinking of somewhere other than Disney. Folks do confuse SeaWorld and Universal with Disney quite a bit.

One other thing that comes to mind is the backlot tour and Catastrophe Canyon at MGM. No umbrellas, but it does "rain."

I am afraid he will be a bit disappointed, as there aren't any places in Disney where they give you umbrellas.

As for raining inside, as the others have said, the only place I can think of is Voyage of the Little Mermaid at Disney-MGM. You really don't get very wet, though.

Other places that are inside where you might get wet, but not by rain would be HISTA at Epcot, It's Tough to Be a Bug at AK, Muppet Vision 3D at Disney-MGM and Mickey's Philharmagic at MK.

My 3 year old called the big mushrooms at Rainforest Cafe umbrellas to keep us from getting wet so maybe this child is referring to the same thing. :umbrella:

I am thinking of Epcot, The Land, the boat ride. Though it rains/thunderstorm, you don't get wet and they surely do not provide umbrellas.

He could mean the Electric Umbrella Cafe in EPCOT. They don't give you umbrellas though. :umbrella:

mystery solved.... I asked the mom and she said it is Rainforest Cafe. LOL!!! She has no idea where he got the idea of the umbrellas. :umbrella:

Is the DTD Rainforest any different from other ones?? We've been to the one in Menlo Park, NJ and wasn't very impressed.

Little kids are funny.

The RFC here at Katy Mills is about the same as the ones at DTD and AK. If you don't like your local one, don't go to the Disney ones.

I agree with ifontaine, the RF cafes are pretty much all the same, with the exception of the Disney ones being more expensive :teeth:

So the 'umbrellas' are the mushrooms at the Rainforest Cafe...cute and will solve any concerns about 'disappointed' little guy.
In addition to the 'rain' mentioned in posts above...sitting at Fantasmic at one of the lower seats would feel like rain!!!! And first row at Little Mermaid.
I say take little guy to all three (esp if it is a warm day)

There is also an unbrella on a lamppost somewhere at MGM..and if you stand on a certain spot it rains and you can be 'singing in the rain' Ive looked for it two trips now and can't find the darn thing (and asking a CM isn't fair if you are a hidden mickey junkie like I am).

Have a Disney Rainy Day!

Even though the case is solved, I just to mention that it also rains inside the Tiki Room!

Howdy,

The ones in Disney are pretty much the same as the one in Menlo Park Mall. They are just bigger and the outside of the buildings have more theming.

Also my 3 1/2 year old daughter is not very fond of the Rainforest. She doesn't get scared very often but Rainforest seems to make her a little uneasy.

Hope this helps,
Frank :wizard:

We much prefer the RFC at Animal Kingdom to that at DTD. The waits at DTD RFC are always very long. We think the service and food at AK RFC is preferable, too.

You might get wet in the Stitch Escape, but it won't be from rain...heh, heh, heh! :teeth:

Slightly OT, but the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center had to have modifications after it was built to ventilate the top to stop the rain clouds from forming inside the building.

When it was built, the VAB was the second largest building in the world, but I don't know where it stands now.

The Singing in the Rain Umbrella is right across the street from the old Hunchback of Notre Dame theater. It's on a street corner. You can also reach it when exiting the Muppet 3-D theater and turning right, you'll see Al's Toy Barn (where Toy Story characters are); the old Hunchback theater is next door, and the umbrella is across the street.
