Day 2, PART 2--EPCOT Monday, Oct 8
We debated using our Soarin FP before we went to the Garden Grill but decided it would be best to wait and ride the dizzying ride after we ate.
There was no line at the counter. Go figure, it was just after 11. There were only 2 families eating at the same time that I remember seeing.
We were seated within minutes in the upper tier. The restuarant rotated but just barely. Pete and I have eaten here before and I was sure that we made about 3 complete rotations but this time we didn't even make a quarter turn.
The waiter was fast and efficient. Mickey came to the table right away. He was dressed in a cute farm outfit. We had to scramble for our autograph books. Although all the kids loved seeing the characters, Calvin was especially excited. That is what is so great about the 4 and 5 age, they really feel the magic. Thank goodness Becky interacted some this time. She is still a little shy but really enjoyed getting the autograph.
This really is the best way to see the characters. However, not necessarily the best way to enjoy a meal. Autograph and picture taking every 5 minutes.
Rachel gets teased by Mickey
Becky not frowning
Calvin gets a hug and kisses Mickey's nose. Too bad those straws are in the way. It is tough to compose a picture so quickly.
Pluto tailed right behind him. nyuk, nyuk

Sorry for the pun, that was for my hubby. He loves 'em.
He teases Becky and she smiles in spite of herself.
It's so funny how some characters have to sign.
I almost forgot that I was trying to take pictures of food. We were served a family platter of roast turkey, flank steak, fried catfish, cheesy potato casserole, and veggies. Kids got a platter of chicken strips, mac n cheese, and fries. The food here was VERY good, except for the turkey, which I thought was a little dry. We also got some kind of bread and butter but it wasn't memorable. The chessy potatoes were awesome and the other veggies were yummy. Calvin woofed down the fried catfish. He ate about 7 of those puppies

I guess he was hungry. In case you are curious, you are able to order more of anything you want.

Kids platter minus the mac n cheese which was floating around and the catfish which is gone!
Dale comes to interupt our meal. When I was a kid I loved Chip and Dale comic books. For some reason I always thought Chip had the red nose and Dale had the black. I was quite shocked to learn it was the other way around. Doh!
That was one frisky chipmunk.
He played with the girls ears and cracked them up then moved onto grandma
That was so hilarious! I wonder where those chipmunk lips have been? We composed ourselves enough to finish. Chip came along and I finally figured that I should get a group shot.
We saw all the characters at least one more time. Whoo-hoo dessert time. The kids got to decorate their own cupcakes. I loved that little Mickey head candy confetti. How cute is that! One of the best tips I learned on the DIS was to bring zippy bags into the parks to bring leftovers home. Whatever candies they had left went in the zippy bag.
The yummy apple dessert. So good!
That was the best character meal. It was so slow that we had tons of time with the characters and the food was some good comfort food.
We headed down to use our FP for Soarin. I wanted to get more FP for later but my mom tells me she doesn't like it that much because it makes her dizzy. So we just rode 2 times that day. Awwww, shucks.
I had been hoping to get the kids autographs with Figment but no one was interested. Another bummer for me. I should have made them go anyway so I could get my picture. We rode the Figment ride and, frankly, I could skip it next time. I have a soft spot in my heart for the character but the ride is just okay. The best part used to be the touch and play stuff after the ride. It's too bad they don't have it anymore. I remember the nail bed and the computer that you could color by touching with a pen! How advanced!
Everyone was starting to slow down but I convinced them to go over to Test Track. I can't tell you how many times Pete and I have been to EPCOT and we haven't been on this ride. This was going to be the year! Of course, he already rode it so it wasn't a joint experience, but that's fine.

Sniff. I'm not bitter.
We had always been so carefull with Rachel to not let her ride anything remotely scary. Then when Becky came along I let her ride Star Tours (after much explanation of what she would experience) because they were really wanted to ride something at MGM and basically, that was it. It was her favorite ride that year. This time with Cal, if he met the height requirement, we were riding! I didn't tell him anything about Test Track except it was a fast car ride.
There is something so exciting about getting ready to ride something that you have never experienced. At Disney even the queue is exciting. We got the yellow car

I had my hand behind their heads because it was a little bumpy in the begining. I was worried about how the little ones would like it. Rachel was the one who was extremely nervous. When it was all over, everyone loved it.

Calvin, especially liked the gift shop here. Grandma wanted the Chevy Tahoe. We joked that we should get Pete the red Saturn Sky convertable since his 40th was coming up and he would need something for his mid-life crisis. It was gorgeous, but not very practicle (that does not look right, I must have spelled it wrong but my brain is not working so I can't figure it out).
I was barely able to snag our Photopass pic. Boy, they don't give you much time to get it. I wish they did this on every ride. Look at Becky, so thrilled.
Everyone was so hot and exhausted that we decided not to dare the World Showcase. We could always come back after dinner. We zipped back to OKW relaxed and ordered some pizza. Nice! That room was such a retreat.
Next up....do we make it back to EPCOT?
