Where else do you vacation?

DH and I have been to Hawaii twice & Grand Cayman, but now have DS, 2 1/2 yr old. We've taken him to San Francisco, Palm Springs, Big Bear Mtn (us skiing, not DS) & WDW this June. Returning to the world in January with MIL. Going to Santa Monica & DL Ca for long weekends in Sept, with visiting family. I get to go to Las Vegas with my Dad in Nov after Thanksgiving w/o DS.
When DS gets older look forward to Grand Canyon, Sedona, Arches Natl Park, Yosemite, whitewater rafting in WV, NYC, Italy, Paris, Greece, New Zealand...

Funny you should ask. I suppose I'm the only true Disney freak in my family. I hate to admit that the kids were less enthusiastic with our trip in July. Already thinking of doing something different for our next summer vacation. We were also thinking Colonial Williamsburg, though my heart does belong to Disney.

We've been to Plymouth, Long Beach Island NJ, Key West, Bonita Springs, Pocono's, Lake Placid, Mooresville NC. And I have a brother who lives in Hawaii but can you believe we won't fly.

There's nothing like Disney!!.....but
-Grand Canyon, stay on the rim and do at least one hike down the canyon. lots to see
-Yellowstone, you can spend a week and still not see everything
but make ressies a year in advance as the cabins in the park go
fast.
-New York City- fun, fun, fun....museums, dining, history
-San Francisco- Fisherman's Wharf, nearby drives to Redwoods,
wineries, the ocean
-Mexico- south of Cancun, Mayan ruins, deep sea fishing, snorkeling in the beautiful water
-white water rafting anywhere!!
There are so many places to go and so much to do. Since you like to keep busy (same here) just plan in activities. One of the times we went to Yellowstone was with extended family and we made a road trip out of it. We had two vehicles (vans) and walkie talkies, which made it so much fun. On the way we had stops planned at points of interest....such as: ONe of Laura Engalls Wilders Childhood home, Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore, etc..
Have fun and plan for activities you enjoy.:bounce: :bounce:

Since you have a child (who would probably not appreciate a sight-seeing road trip) I would highly recommend a dude ranch vacation somewhere beautiful like Wyoming. You could go to Jackson near Grand Teton National Park (which is right next to Yellowstone National Park). Both areas are breath-taking. Lots of wild animals and , if you stay at a dude-ranch, lots of activities to boot. Try not to miss Yellowstone - stay in the Lodge (WL is nice, but Yellowstone Lodge is the real-thing).

Old orchard beach, maine----
leaving tomorrow morning for a week.....yipppeeeee!

not the same as disney but the beach, ahhhhh!

We love WDW but also want our kids to see other parts of our beautiful country. Originally we thought we would do WDW every third year but this past trip was sooo great that even DH said "how about every two years"!!!!

Non- WDW trips we've taken:
San Antonio- great for couples or families!
Charleston, SC- we did an adults only anniversary trip.
Maine coast- we have family there but still a great vacation destination.
Lake Michigan coast- we live in MI but it is beautiful for anyone.
Kings Island in Ohio- a fun weekend but it's no Disney.
Niagra Falls- in the winter, all the beauty, no crowds but cold!

This upcoming winter will be our non-Disney year and we are heading to San Diego for a week!

We can't seem to stop ourselves from visiting Disney & Universal. This past trip from last week we did 4 days of theme parks and then took a 3 day cruise on Carnival to Nassau. We had the best of both worlds. However, next cruise I will pay for the upgrade to a larger room.

/
1) Skiing - we take one ski trip per year, always to Winter Park, CO.

2) YMCA of the Rockies - we have taken many family vacations here (Snow Mountain Ranch, near Winter Park).

3) Branson - we live near Kansas City - it's a 4 1/2 hour drive. We usually take a mini trip there each summer. Do Silver Dollar City and see one or two shows!

4) We took a trip to Yellowstone/Grand Teton this summer. It was just amazing and even my 15 year old was excited and had a great time - no fighting kids for 10 days!!

5) NYC - just had to throw this in - I was a million point winner at WWTBAM last summer. Finally took my trip this summer with my sister. Saw Regis and Kelly instead of Millionaire. We had a blast and even fit in a Broadway show. A great whirlwind girls-only trip!!

But WDW is the true "addiction" that keeps pulling us back!!

DH & I love to travel!

Lets see, we have a few "traditions" we do every year:

Weekend trip to Boston w/friends in the Spring
Long weekend to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park with friends in June
Weekend in NH for our anniversary (July)
And....now that we're DVC owners (at least) a week at WDW (Jan/Feb)

We've taken long weekends (4/5 days) to:

Mexico - (twice - Acapulco & Puerto Vallarta)
New York
New Mexico
Las Vegas
Colorado
Baltimore/DC area
Miami

We're going to New Orleans for 5 days in October to celebrate DH's birthday

We've try plan at least one other "long trip" per year. We have been to:

Upstate New York
New Brunswick, Canada (Bay of Fundy)
California (San Diego/Anahiem)
St. Lucia
Switzerland
A cabin in the Mountains of Western Maine
7 day S. Caribbean cruise

My sister and I spent 10 days in Ireland last year.

There are so many places we still want to see! In upcoming years DH & I plan to:

Travel across Canada by train
See Alaska
Visit California wine country
Take an African Safari (DH also wants to climb Kilimanjaro)
Take another cruise

This list could go on forever... :earseek:

I think it is the perfect island. The people are cosmopolitan and lovely. The beaches are gorgeous. The shopping is great. You can circle the whole island easily on a motorbike in a day!

My DH is NOT a Disney fan so we vacation pretty much anywhere else!

This summer our family flew to San Jose and drove out through the valley and spent a week in the Yosemite National Park area. It exceeded all expectations! It was just breathtaking. Great scenery and hikes for all abilities.

Off to Monterey for a night. Fabulous aquarium, rocky coastline complete with sea lions and otters, and great restaurants.

Spent final three days in San Francisco with the kids and husband hanging off the running boards on the cable cars. A terrific small, friendly city.

Our usual local haunts are:

the coast of southern Maine
(with a trip to LL Bean in Freeport of course!)

the White Mountains of New Hampshire
great hiking!

Recent vacations included Hilton Head Island, S.C. and Nova Scotia, Canada.

I love planning vacations. We will be heading down to WDW this November. Our last trip was during the Millenium in November 1999.

If I could, I think I would travel to WDW every three months or so!

Cruises used to be my favorite vacation - been on 7 of them - until I went to Disney!!! Actually I was a little disappointed in our last cruise - it is a lot cheaper to cruise now and seems like quality has suffered (something has to give). Went to Bermuda, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Bahamas and private islands (royal caribbean's cococay is the best!!). Will definately cruise again someday though!

We have a 32 foot trailer so we camp a lot for vacations. Went to Lake George NY twice (gorgeous area - the lake is awesome!!!). Went to Niagra Falls - something you have to see at least once! We have been to Acadia National Park area. Next summer we are doing the cross country thing and going to Yellowstone National Park, Montana and South Dakota! I am still hoping to fit in a least a 5 day trip to Disney in the fall but may not be able to do it next year!

I also went to Scotland for 10 days in 98 with my sister. Great trip - beautiful country and people!!!!

My DH and I love the beach. My dad and stepmom live about 10 miles from Gulf Shore, Alabama. So in the spring we go there and then on to Panama City Beach or that area. I think next spring we will go to St. Petersburg though. In the fall we usually go to Myrtle Beach. Our children are grown so we always go during the off season.

Vegas vegas vegas... just love that place. :)

DH and I like the Carribean...

once my goal was to visit every island mentioned in the Beach Boy's song Kokomo......
We've done Aruba, Bermuda, Bahamas, the Keys.......also some not in the song like St Croix and St Thomas :)
but he wants to visit Europe too so who knows what we'll be able to fit in/afford in between my Disney fixes :teeth:

I've always enjoyed National Parks. What's fun for kids (and big kids like me) is they have a National Park Passport that you can get validated at each park, so each park has it's own validation that you can only get from the park.

I've been on several different driving tips (you could probably break them up and not drive so far):

Trip 1, when I was a kid:
Drove from LA to the Grand Canyon AZ, Carlsbad Caverns NM, and Texas with a quick trip to Mexico and back to LA.

Trip 2:
Drove from LA to Bryce Canyon and Zion UT, Salt Lake City, Jackson Hole/Grand Tetons WY, Yellowstone WY, Glacier MT, Craters of the Moon ID and back to LA.

Trip 3:
Drove from Vegas to Reno (we visited Virginia City, which we really enjoyed), Tahoe, Mammoth Lakes CA, Yosemite CA, Redwoods and Sequoia CA, then Disneyland and some other parks before driving back to Vegas.

Just returned from 4 days at Disney's Hilton Head resort. It was really nice. As someone said of Vero, Disney quality but no theme parks. We rented bikes & rode around each day - including to the beach - much less stressful than driving. The recreation staff was wonderful. My kids participated in a lot of the activities & were the only two on the Marsh Adventure Sat. a.m.

With the kids, we've done Michigan coast, Gatlinburg, Nashville & Memphis TN.

We have relatives in OH so we've done a lot of King's Island. Being only an hour from Baltimore, we visited the Maryland Science Center & the Aquarium many times.

My 7 years old had been to WDW 6 times by the time he was 5  It's been almost 2 years since our last trip. :(

We like to vacation up near the Mackinac Bridge in Northern Michigan.

Wow.................you have a whole world out there to explore........go for it......

Never to late to let your hair down & rage:p

We try to go somewhere different each year & if we do repeat a destination we don't do it within 2 years of our previous viisit.:Pinkbounc

Good luck:Pinkbounc :p :bounce:

We have 2 favorite vacation spots. WDW and Hawaii. Of course, Hawaii actually counts for several since each island is it's own big adventure that is different from all the others.
