Where does your toddler sleep?

On out 4 day Wonder my DS was 16 months and slept in the DCL Graco pack n play.

When we cruise this October on the Magic he will be 2 years and 5 months (29 months). I know a lot can change in the 8 months until we cruise but I am worried where he will sleep. At home he has shown no interest in climbing out of his crib so he is still in one. When the time comes and he is trying to get out of the crib I will switch him to a little toddler bed.

We have Category 9 cabin with a connecting cabin to my parents. Both cabins sleep 4. My MIL is going with us in lieu of my DH so I was thinking my MIL in the twin beds and toddler in the sofa that turns into a bed? Is that safe for a toddler? I was thinking it would better than a twin bed where he can fall out either side??? Does DCL have a side rail available? My 5 year old DS can sleep in my parents cabin on their sofa that converts or their drop down bunk.

My toddler will not sleep with me in the queen bed so that is out. He likes to sleep on his own. I think it goes back to his NICU days???

Any suggestions, ideas or experience would be appreciated.

Thanks-
Tiff:rolleyes:

I put my 2 1/2 yr old in a pack and play. She was so excited that I was worried she would wander and become confused, or fall out when seas were rough. We moved the center table out to the veranda.

Having her safe asleep in the crib also allowed us to draw the curtain and turn the TV on (the curtain tucks nicely behind), keep the lamp on, or cuddle;)

It worked out well for us and she didn't complain.

Have a great time!

Thanks! That is what we did on our 4 day cruise in October and he slept like a king 12 hour nights :) And when we travel or visit family he sleeps fine but I was worried about 8 months from now espcially if he is in his toddler bed by then if he would have troble going back to the pack n play. He is also large 32 pounds and is only 21 as of today and wears 3 T clothes????

Thanks for your insight.

DCL does provide railing for beds upon request. We got two on our last trip.

Yes, that's where we used one of them for my older child. The railing has two L-shaped legs that tuck under the mattress. It's held in place by the weight of the mattress and the child.

Our ds was 2 1/2 when we first cruised DCL. He was still in his crib at home as he had never climbed out, but being that we were in a cat. 11, I really didn't want to deal w/a pack n play each evening/morning.

He slept on the couch/bed and did very well. We tucked him in tight each night and put a pillow on the floor "just in case". The couch is so low I wasn't really worried even if he did fall out. Well, he did fall out one night out of 7. I heard a muffled "thud", got up, picked his sleepy body up and tucked him back in bed w/o him ever waking up. I guess I could have asked for a bedrail, but it didn't seem like a big deal to me.

I was just getting ready to post a question about this very thing! We are going in four weeks and our DS is 2 1/2 and still in his crib at home. He is too tall and heavy for the pack n play. I wish he could still use it...he slept really well in it on our Wonder cruise last year.

Has anyone ever separated the queen bed into two twin beds and put bed rails on it (rails on both sides) for your toddler? I'm glad to know that others have tried the sofa-bed with success, but we would like to be able to put him to sleep in the twin bed and close the curtain so we can watch tv and hang out for a while before we turn in.

Also, are the bedrails that DCL provides comparable to what I could get at Toys R Us...ie. 4-5 feet long...16 or so inches high...just want to decide if it's best to bring my own along.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi EcMommy-

We are not going again until the Halloween Magic would you mind contacting me when you get and letting me know how the sleeping arrangement worked out. If not I will worry until October, my DS is huge, of the charts and he was a preamie :) He is almost 33 pounds and weard 3T clothes so I know what you mean about exceeding weight standards. My DS still is in his crib too and I have his older brothers toddler bed and side railings ready to go when he is ready but for right now he is not. When he sleeps he is all over the place, upside down, sideways etc.

I also wonder if the Raddison has side rails?

I hope it works out and you have a great time! I think the side railings would work on the twin bed. If no one answers here post that question on the forum and use the ? as the title to your thread someone will have the answer.

Have fun!!!

OUR LITTLE ONE IS DUE IN AUGUST.SO WHEN WE CRUISE, THE BABY WILL BE ABOUT 5 MOS. DO WE HAVE THE OPTION OF CHOOSING A CRIB OR PAC N PLAY? IS THERE A CHARGE? ARE THEY IN GOOD SHAPE?

We were provided with a perfectly fine Graco pack n play and sheets with Mickey Mouse on them. You do have to ask your cabin attendant to change the sheet and it is not a bad idea to keep an extra one in the closet in case you need one in the middle of the night.

The pack n play is exactly like the one I have at home except it did not have a design on it it was dark green. The cabin attendant put it up and in our case we had the coffee table moved out and left it up the 4 night cruise since my DS's nap schedule was off and we never knew when he would be sleeping.

I would add that we spent the night before our cruise at the Radisson and they had these awful old 1950's like narrow wooden cribs. My son was 16 months old and large even at that age and cried the whole night because he was so miserable.

Remember to bring the babies blankets and such (i.e heart beat bear if used).

Have fun!

THANK TOU FOR THE INFO!!! NOT LUGGING THE PACK N PLAY FROM HOME IS GREAT!!

Hi Tiff!

Thank you for the reply! It sounds like our two DSs are maxing out the growth charts! :)

After we returned from our Wonder cruise last year I posted a mini trip report that included everything that would be of interest to people traveling with a toddler. I will definitely do the same thing after we return and will be sure to include info. on the whole bed/bed rail thing. Look for it around the second week of April.

Have fun planning your Oct. cruise!!

Thank you!
Lisa

Wonderful! Thanks Lisa! Any other tips you can think of too. I know last time I wished I had taken a little think of dish detergent for washing sippy cups and my umbrella stroller came in so handy. Anything else that has changed or you think of with the sleeping situationw ould be great. I will watch for your report. Have a great time, April is right around the corner :)

Tiff, I would use the sofa bed as one side of it backs up against the wall and you can get bed rails for the other side. Your little guy does sound like he will be too big for the Pak 'n' Play by the time you cruise. :)
