What the heck did they do to the Kilauea Torte ?? I was looking forward to trying it this trip. Do you know if the macadamia chocolate tart is still on the menu ?

They messed it up is what they did to it. I don't remember seeing the macadamia chocolate tart on the menu, Marivaid. But then again, I was stressing over the loss of the Kilauea Torte, so I wasn't really paying attention to the other desserts. Also, they rocked our world by telling us the Kiddie Kone was no longer available as a dessert for the kids on the dining plan. The Kiddie Kone is to our kids as the Kilauea Torte is to us. So we told them we wanted it anyway and when it came time to ring it up, she said "Well, whaddayaknow, it went through."

They really need to change the description on the menu then. Yikes.

i'd heard a rumor on another thread that the crabcakes at LTT were on the endangered species list....

sure hope not - my DH would throw a hissy fit....

I just ate there for lunch on Tues Oct 10th. I ordered the crab cakes and the waiter asked how they were. I said great. He told me the chef changed them and it was the first day of serving them. They were loaded with crab meat not much filler. The crust was so good not greasy at all. They were the best.

Same thing with the chocolate moose at LeCellier....it's on the adult dessert menu now. On 9/24 when we ate there DS ordered it and it was brought by the adorable waitress with no mention of it being "adult" and no extra charge. On 9/27 we were told it would be extra.

The Kona menu. If they say that the Kilauea Torte as being chocolate filled with chocolate and bring out a blond cake filled with something else, they should really change the description on the menu. Did they tell you when they changed to the non-chocolate version?

I don't remember the desserts being on the menu at all. They are all prominently displayed on the dessert counter and the hostess usually walks us past to have a look.

I remember them being on the menu. I didn't just make the description up. If they weren't before, they definitely are now. If you look at the other thread that was just created with pictures of the new Kuna menu, although the desserts are cut off in the photo, you will definitely see a heading for them.

Ok, this is JMHO but does anyone find irony in the fact that this thread about having healthy food shoved down our throats is on the same board with the food porn thread? I mean that thread has a lot of food on there that isn't healthy by any stretch of the imagination, and not all of the food has been deleted from the disney menues.

I first want to add that I do not get DDP, and I know that a lot of people do. I know that if you are on the DDP dessert is included with your meal. In that sense, yes be upset that they don't offer better/more desserts. You paid for them. As for me, I rarely get a dessert when I go to a restaurant, Disney or not. If I have a craving for a sweet I will hit up one of the many bakeries, ice cream shops, or candy stores on Disney property. They still have plenty of yummy stuff that is by no means good for you.

I too have been a victim of losing a fav Disney treat. Mine was just a wine at the German Pavilion. I try to look at it as a good thing. I would always get it and watch Illuminations. Now I can not, but it does allow me to get out of the normal disney routine and try new things.

Everything else, while excellent, is only the necessary step for attaining the ultimate rewards of that chocolate wonder. And the passionfruit puree. Oh Joy! Oh Bliss! And now you're telling me that I experienced my last one in September??? I might have to put you on ignore for that. Or will I?

ZZUB ~ get a hold of the rage, man. And while I agree with you on principal in your willingness to blame Bush if that will bring the dessert back (apparently I am now in the same boat as to the above), really, can't we blame anyone else? How about Susie Helpershoes? Or her cousin?

And to think that the only reason I hopped over here today was to see if there was any further speculation about when one could make ADRs for Yak and Yeti. Or if they had a menu yet. Does anyone know?

If I had known in September that was to be my last Grilled Pound cake at LTT I would have had 2 of them.

I will have to go over all the updated menus before I make ADR's for our spring trip. All my favorite places have had so many menu changes I don't even want a nice meal everyday like we have done for the past 10 years.

I hate to say it but I was at Universal for 2 days before we went to WDW this past September and there food choices and quality beat Disney's by a mile.

Like Lexmelinda, I don't remember reading a description on the menu that night. If you're going by Allearsnet, that one hasn't been updated since February but I'm sure they'll update it as soon as they can get their hands on one of the new menus. No word on when they changed, but it was obviously too early for my liking.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, my girl. Don't put me on Ignore though. Ignore ZZUB. He started it. Plus he smells. And besides, we're completely borg on reasons for going to Kona. Well, we were. Unfortunately it looks like you may have had your last one in September, unless they decide to change it back. I don't know if they've ever done that before, but one can hope. The server acted pretty sheepish as she explained that they'd changed the recipe. I'm guessing we weren't the first ones to question the decision.

For the record, the kilueau torte is now a little different than it was described here. On this thread, it was described almost as if it didn't even contain chocolate any more. On another recent thread though, there is a very good photo and description offered. The inside isn't "gel" it is, in fact, a sauce that contains chocolate. The cake part is not a blondie but a chocolate chip cake. So, there's still lots of chocolate and the photo I saw (not on this thread), made it look absolutely delicious.

Also, on the same thread, there's a photo of the menu and it definitely lists the desserts.

Just wanted to clear those two things up.

Anyway, you asked "Where does it end?" IMHO branv's post makes the best case for the end point. It's when their constant nicking at the edges of quality and gradual raising of prices is no longer profitable.

For the past few years, we guests have been the frogs they've been boiling in the pot by starting us off at room temperature and raising the heat a little at a time. Raise the prices a shade...take away here and there the food choices that may be popular but the green-eyeshade guys think don't yield enough profit...get folks in love with the DDP, then whittle away the value and convenience by removing the appetizer and tip...get them used to Magical Express so eating offsite isn't considered a threat anymore...

It won't end until guests reach their "squeal point." And with attendance at record highs this year, my guess is guests aren't there, not by a long shot. Which means that what we've seen so far will just continue. Get used to the new Kilauea Torte--we may be longing for that by the time we see what will be foisted on us next year, or the year after that, or....

Looks pretty darn good to me...but I'm just one guy talkin' here...

Funny, the thousands of guests who are eating right now at Kona Cafe for the first time, never trying the old version of the Kilauea Torte, would probably complain that the original version was too chocolaty if Disney ever decided to go back to serving the original version.

It sounds to me like they've tweaked the recipe, which judging from the picture that Laugh O. Grams posted, looks like a good thing. Not in the same ballpark as the original, but still. The crust on the Torte that my husband and I ate recently did not contain any chocolate chips and the sauce in the middle was a clear, fruit(ish) type sauce. As stated before. There obviously was some chocolate on the top but that was about it. So I'm glad to see chocolate flowing once more from the Torte. As it should be. But I'm still upset that it's been changed at all. It was sheer perfection the way it was. Sheer perfection. IMO anyway. And based on some posts that I've seen on the topic, I'm guessing I'm not the only one who is of that opinion.

At any rate, it appears blaming George Bush (or the rain, or Suzie Helpershoes, for that matter) may have worked, at least partly, in this case.

Sorry it hasn't helped bring back the Butter Grilled Poundcake though, ZZUB.

No one ushered us up to see the desserts as they have in years' past, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. By the way, which one are you? The Mr. or the Mrs? And if you're the Mrs., do you bake pies? If so, they're really good. Don't go changing your recipes on us. But back to the Torte. We did walk up there though. Because we always like to look over the desserts when we go to Kona. Desserts are our "thing". As if you couldn't tell. And yes, as I stated earlier, my husband and I knew full well that it had changed before we ordered it. Which is why I said we ordered it to "give it a shot".
