We are planning a short trip in Nov...my sis in law has 5 in her family....so we are doing 2 nights at US so then we want to spend some time at WDW...

We can get Holiday Inn Family Suites for $82.00
Dolphin for $145.00
Dixie Landings with trundle $148.00

any other suggestions and our family is 4

and this would be for 3 nights...

thanks:D

hello

we are staying at POR with trundle bed in the alligator bayou section (this is the only section with trundle bed for 5 guests.) this is a moderate resort and i don't know the per day cost as we booked a fairtale package with tickets

the contemporary, poly, AKL deluxe rooms, wilderness lodge cabins - all these offer 5 people accomodations (wilderness lodge cabins even more people)

i will post what i thought of the room size from the POR when i return at the end of July 2003- we are 2 adults- 2 (big) teens and a toddler

You could also try the (dvc) home away from home resorts. Check the dvc rent/trade board, you can usually pay much less by doing that and you get much larger accomodations. I can highly recommend OKW!

I was doing some research for my sister and came across some good rates for the Hotel Royal in the DTD resort area. Depending on the time you are going the rates are as low as $65.00 and they have rooms that sleep 5 - two beds and a sofa/day bed. It got really good reviews on the mousesavers website. She may be taking her girl scout troop there. :D

PS - you have to go through the mousesavers website I think to get that rate.

OOPS! Just checked and it looks like the rates go up to $99.00 in November. Still it may be worth looking in to. It's still cheaper than POR and close enough to walk to DTD. It looks really nice! :D

My family of 5 stayed at the Dolphin and LOVED it! I have reccommended it to everyone.

Feel free to Pm me with any questions about this great resort.

I don't think the Hotel Royal has a kids pool which is a must so HIFS is sounding the best...

thanks again!

You are comparing apples to oranges. You first need to decide between onsite and off. We are a family of five and stay at Grande Vista. While it is more expensive than HIFS, the rooms are H U G E. You must determine what amenities you need and what they are worth. There are so many offsite options that you must consider.

Go to the Orlando Hotel and resorts board and you will see many reviews about GV. The added value of the kitchen, tvs, w/d and all of the space makes this a winner. You can join Marriott Rewards and save even more on this or other Marriott vacation villas in the area.:smooth: :bounce: :smooth:

I agree, there is so much you need to consider. Personally putting 5 people in a single hotel room is not fun. For one night a single hotel room is fine but for 3 nights / 4 day IMHO that is just too tight of quarters.

Another thing about the HIFS is it is very full of young kids. If your kids are older you may be better picking something else. A more relaxed hotel may be better to come home to.

I haven't personally stayed at the SS-LBV yet but the space and the Wyndham name is what did it for me for my stay coming up in October.

I have a question for JetMom---
When your family of 5 stayed at the Dolphin, did you have to pay an extra $25 per night for a roll-a-way bed? I have called the Dolphin and they said that my family of 5 couldn't stay in a standard room unless we paid for the roll-a-way. We are planning to stay a week, and the extra $175 for an extra bed for a 12 year old seemed high. I was thinking of sneaking in a sleeping bag for him. I'd rather go out and have a nice dinner for the extra $ !!!

You might also want to check into Tropical Palms Fun Resort.. Awesome place - we stayed there in Sept. of 2001..

It's a combo RV park on one side, cottages on the other.. The 2 bedroom cottage has one bedroom with a queen, 1 bedroom with a double, a double(or what it queen?) pull-out sofa in the living room/kitchen area and a loft that will sleep two more..

Great place - great grounds - great location - great rates.. We LOVED it!!;)

If you want to stay on-site then there are quite a few options:

If the 2 families are set on staying separate then the resorts that accommodate 5 are:

Contemporary
Yacht Club
Beach Club
Port Orleans (I think)
Fort Wilderness Cabins (that would be my first choice, no doubt about it)

If you want to stay together then definitely go to the DVC Rent/Trade Board & look into getting a 2BR unit. You'll have 2 bathrooms, washer/dryer units, full kitchen & outdoor balcony/patio. They are great units. Points rent for approximately 10 per point.

Good luck with your decision. :D

One of the best ways I have seen to cut some costs, and stay on property is to rent some Disney Vacation Points, and go that route. I have stayed at Old Key West several times for less money than other resorts on-property.

If you look on the DVC Rent board, you can always find someone renting points. Usually the process is pretty painless. YOu just determine the size of room, find out how many points it will be, and go from there.

We have had 3 adults and 2 children in a Studio, and it was ok. Now, when we go back in September, we will be in a 2 bedroom at Old Key West for the same number of people, but only because we got a good deal on it.

I have a friend who has a family of five. They go to Disney often, three or more times a year, and will only stay onsite, often at the All Stars. They do one of two things.

Find another family of 5 (or 6), which is usually her sister's family or her cousin's family. They all go together and get three rooms total, putting a set of parents and their two youngest in one room, the other parents and their two youngest in the next room, and let the 2 (or 3) teenage girls have the third room. They have never had a problem getting all the rooms together. This makes each family only have to pay for one and a half rooms, rather than two. They mostly go in the off season.

Or get the grandparents to go (if they are able and can afford it). The grandparents don't mind letting one of the grandkids stay in the room with them.

I do notice your family is only four, so don't know if these ideas will help in your particular situation, though.

Following advice that I received on the DIS boards, I called the Dolphin and explained that we had 3 children under 10 years old and putting them in an adjoining room was not possible. I mentioned that a friend had the roll-a-way fee waived under those circumstances. The management at the Dolphin agreed to waive the fee with no problem.

Just wanted to let you know that the Summerfield Suites (LBV) were great for our family of five. Two large bedrooms, two baths, two (or three?) t.v.'s, living room, and small kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave for late night snacks. There was an outdoor pool which we were able to use in December, and a nice breakfast was included in the price, which I seem to remember being around $100/night. It's also close to Downtown Disney and we enjoyed the various restaurants in the area too.
