Where does a Newbie even begin?

Ok- I have to admit that I have spent hours searching over these designs. But yet, I have no idea what to do. Am I crazy for feeling overwhelmed??
I finally decided I needed to just stop looking and just bite the bullet and post something. I have that fear of seeming dumb and doing something wrong?

We are going to Disney next month and I need a few designs... but let's start w/ just one...
I would like to have the "It's my birthday feel free to treat me like a princess" design for Addie age 8.

I will accept any advice for a newbie!!!!
